Asian Mulberry Fruit Farm and Harvest - Mulberry Juice Processing - Mulberry Cultivation

Plant mulberry trees in spring in full to part sun location on well drained, compost amended soil. They're forgiving of poor soil conditions. Space large trees at least 30 feet apart and smaller trees 10 to 15 feet. Mulberries are easy to grow.

Why you shold consider planting mulberries: 1. They grow really fast. Our 1.5 yr old tree is already taller than our house. 2. They are easy to grow. Just cut a mature branch with the buds on it and stick it to damp soil. It will grow in no time. 3. You can get fruits in a matter of months but you may have to wait for 2-3 years before you can get enough in one harvest to cook mulberry jam. 4. They bear fruits several times in a year (in tropical countries). Our larger tree grows 2-3x per year without pruning. With pruning, you can increase the frequency of fruit bearing. 5. They provide shade and attract birds. 6. They are noninvasive. The mulberries that grow in your yard or farm are the mulberries you intentionally propagate using cuttings. You won't have a sudden increase of unwanted trees in your property. 7. They look beautiful. The leaves are shiny and the tree grows a large crown that can provide good shade. 8. The fruit taste great and you can prepare jams with it. They can also be made into wine and "slimming" tea. I haven't tried doing wine and tea, though. The leaves can be fed to your pet pigs. The pigs love them. You have to be ready for the following, though: The fruits can stain clothes. The wood is brittle. Strong winds can bend your young plant. You need to support it until the trunk becomes strong enough to support itself. The tree attracts caterpillars. If you get an infestation of leaf eaters, you'll get an ugly looking tree, but it will regenerate once you remove the pests. The tree is not good for small spaces with its big crown and extensive roots.

We have one un our back yard and although you are right about the roots. My husband prunes it half way down every winter. Its still very tall but its very full and we get heaps of fruit we can reach. Its the most beautiful shade tree and the fruit is delicious. I make jam and cakes and desserts. Its the best thing we could have done. 😊

I've loved mulberries since I was a kid. I have a friend that has a very old tree that's about 80+ feet tall. It only has fruit in the top for the birds now but what an amazingly beautiful tree! I call it the witching tree. hahahaha It's twisting, turning branches look like something you might expect to see on Harry Potter. LOVE that tree!
