Asiago 🏔 Vicenza, Italy 🏔 Travel Vlog 4K

Asiago is an Italian town of 6500 inhabitants in the province of Vicenza, in Veneto. Main center of the plateau, it was once the capital of the Regency of the Seven Municipalities. After the Spring Offensive in the First World War, Asiago was in no man's land and suffered terrible bombardments that completely razed it to the ground.
It is a well-known location for winter tourism and summer tourism. Asiago also links its name to dairy products known throughout the world.
From 1910 to 1958 the railway that connected Piovene Rocchette with this town was in operation via the Altopiano dei Sette Comuni, and in Asiago it had its own railway station. After being unused for years, it is now used as a tourist office.
The Gardens of Piazza Carli host the Fountain of the Faun, a mythological being that brings a touch of magic in the center of Asiago. The fountain was erected in the public gardens in the year 1927, and has an octagonal base made of red Asiago marble. Along the sides there are four bronze sculptures representing four woodland animals. In the center of the basin there is the main statue, depicting a faun, protective deity of the flocks and fields, with pointed ears, horns and goat feet, riding a roe deer.
Asiago is located on a plateau at an average altitude of 1000 meters above sea level, surrounded to the north by a mountain range with reliefs that exceed 2000 meters in height, and to the south by another chain of mountains with lower altitudes.
Asiago extends for 163 km², but in reality a large part of this territory belongs to the other 6 municipalities of the plateau. The whole summit area, in fact, belongs to the various plateau entities.
Due to its particular position and the high sky-view factor of the plateau, it reaches minimum temperatures even very low and is considered one of the coldest inhabited centers in the Alps.
From the center, it takes a few minutes on foot to reach the Lumera lake, where you can walk along the banks of the water, fish, or simply admire the landscape. A dirt pedestrian road leads, crossing a wide valley, to the natural lake. The lake, surrounded by a crown of pine trees, is equipped with numerous wooden benches, a fun playground for children and a bar where you can eat.
On the Asiago plateau, in 1310 one of the first autonomous and democratic governments in history was established, the Respectable Regency of the Seven Municipalities, made up of the Seven Cimbri Municipalities, with its own militia. Asiago was the capital. Five centuries later, with the victory of the French over Austria, the Veneto became part of the Napoleonic Empire. The status of separate land was removed from the Regency of the Seven Municipalities, so in 1807 its independence and sovereignty was abolished. It was integrated into the territories occupied by the French.
The City of Asiago, like all the other countries of the plateau, was directly affected by the events of the First World War. During the Spring Offensive the city was bombed by both Austro-Hungarian and Italian artillery, and was completely razed to the ground. It was rebuilt immediately after the end of hostilities.
The large ossuary monument, built on the Leiten hill after the war to collect the remains of soldiers who fell in three years of fierce fighting, has become, together with those of Pasubio, Monte Grappa and Tonezza del Cimone, a symbol of the province of Vicenza.
Asiago is among the Cities decorated with Military Valor for the War of Liberation, having been awarded the Silver Medal for Military Valor for the sacrifices of its populations and for its activity in the partisan struggle during the Second World War.
