Ashwagandha - Anti-inflammatory Mechanism

Ойын-сауық

Ashwagandha - Anti-inflammatory Mechanism
Ashwagandha is a herb used in Indian medicine (Ayurvedic medicine) for nearly 3000 years. It is found in India, Middle East, and Africa. It is reported to have anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-diabetic, anti-hypertensive, neuroprotective, apoptogenic, and reproductive and hormone modulating effects.
Let's review anti-inflammatory aspects of this herb. We will discuss NF-kB pathway modulation.

I started taking ashwaghanda daily after learning about it from Dr. Berg 13 days ago. I did not feel a difference in pain relief until maybe last 2 days, but my Garmin watch detected my overnight stress levels were greatly improved the immediately (Measured by analyzing heart rate variability). To test that it was an ashwaghanda effect I skipped taking a daily dose (1/3 morning, 2/3 at bedtime) and my sleeping stress levels were elevated again that night. This short period of using ashwaghanda seems to show a positive effect as a stress adaptogen so far.

Secondly could you do a video on Mukta Vati which does contain ashwaganda, amongst other things. However Mukta Vati's main claim is to reduce blood pressure (which I have found to be the case for me). Do you have any knowledge of side effects, good studies and long term use? I would be most grateful 🙏 if you covered this subject.

Ashwaghanda was an ingredient in an herbal blood pressure supplement that I took for about 6 months taking it about every 12 hours. The result for me was at first high thyroid and when stopping then low with finally a high TSH and very high TPO. If you look the ingredient up on google, it can affect the thyroid and this may causes a lot of problems for some people. I am currently on Thyroid meds to save my thyroid that was under an autoimmune attack I suspect from Ashwaghanda. I am not a doctor but I feel one should research this herb before attempting it and check your thyroid levels throughout.

Dr. Been: It seems to me that covid-induced thrombi are more resistant to dissolving than everyday thrombi. We need something that can help to dissolve thrombi. (Covid caused a thrombus to form in my heart. I just had my 2nd TEE, and in spite of heparin, Lovenox, and warfarin, the thrombus persists.)

If a blood clot has already formed then the meds you are on are to prevent it growing (heparin, lovenox, warfarin); meanwhile your body has the natural ability to slowly break down the existing clot. This must happen slowly to prevent an embolism breaking free and wreaking havoc. Your anticoagulants may need to continue long-term

@hiris1903 Thank you for your input. Yes, the meds are to keep it from growing and also to dissolve it, but it seems that covid thrombi are more resistant to dissolve. (I have been able to find a couple of scientific studies accordingly.) My thrombus is in the left atrium, and when originally found, was defined as medium-sized and partially mobile. A subsequent TEE a little over a week or so ago defined it as now large and partially mobile. I am supposed to have another TEE in about 3 mo. In the meantime, I just had CT AngioHeart W 3D Imaging / Function. I don't have results yet. And yes, I understand that I am going to have to be on Coumadin probably for the rest of my life.

4:53 the number of “cover your ass” declarations on nursing mothers always angers me. In general, nursing with various herbs is far far FAR less likely to be an issue than during pregnancy. It’s not impossible there’s a small potential for crossing into the milk, but if we know it can potentially cause miscarriage in pregnancy it can’t cause miscarriage with nursing so that one’s off the charts! A good reference for milk and meds is the actual book “medications and mothers milk” by Dr Thomas Hale. It’s a very interesting book, well worth the money. 👌🏻👌🏻
