"Ashtyn&Jon" are Bad at History: An Unnecessary and Uncalled-for Defence of The Armchair Historian

In this video, I- the gallant hero- rush to the aid of poor old Griffy Johnsen, The Armchair Historian, whose content has effectively been stolen by a so-called 'Reaction' channel called "Ashtyn & Jon 2.0"
These individuals watch one of his more popular videos and offer their thoughts on it- which is to say, not very much at all. They basically just sit there while the video plays and people throw money at them. This is quite insulting to Griffin and a terrible affront to history channels here on KZread. Basically in this video I am a very pedantic white knight trying to steal views off of two channels much more popular than my own.
Petty? Yes. Silly? Very. Fun? Almost.

I don't find The Armchair Historian to be an example to follow to any degree. Perhaps a channel like TIK (a year or so ago, to be precise, when he wasn't as compromised by politics and was busting some bang-up misconceptions) or The_Chieftain (though it's a bit unfair to compare TAH to channels like the Chief and Ian McCollum at ForgottenWeapons). Thersites the Historian deserves a bigger viewership by far, a focus on the information itself and not ad revenue and snappy production value. Snapshot channels like Kings and Generals and Historigraph - and the god of the squares 'Historia_Civilis' these are the people to emulate. Armchair Historian is one step above Simple History as far as I'm concerned. If you're new to this whole 'history' thing that's fine, great place to start - they do nothing else besides that and collect their ad revenue and milk their Patreon subscribers. I was very let down by the Armchair Historian channel, if you didn't already guess. Didn't start that way.

Indeed they did. The Poles, for example, used rifles and anti-tank rifles as their primary cavalry arms. However, at Krojanty and other isolated incidents, they actually charged mounted with saber when they could catch infantry unaware. And sometimes they actually did quite well. The greatest resistance to the Japanese attack on Luzon came from the 26th cavalry, mostly Filipinos armed with rifles moving on horseback. Under their commander Edwin Ramsey, they actually performed a successful cavalry charge (with pistols instead of sabers) at Morong as the US army fell back to Bataan.

Its an interesting point, when Ashtyn talks about armor. On one hand you have Ashtyn who thinks, "why didnt they use armor thats dumb" and yet without anymore information than she has Jon is already thinking of reasons why they wouldnt. It shows two different thought processes which clearly shows an intelligence gap between them. Like most of us who would wonder why they didnt have armor would think, "well maybe metal wasnt that cheap and youd need a lot of it to stop a musket, plus it would only be at best protecting the chest, plus it would be very heavy and soldiers back then didnt have trucks to carry them around they had to march. etc etc most people naturally think "well im sure they had reasons for not using armor" whereas people like Ashtyn assume that everyone else is just dumb and shed have ruled the world with her musket knights lol

And its not like they didn't try either. Attempts were made in WW1 that didnt pan out. The flak jackets of WW2 were too bulky for a soldier on the frontline and were mostly given Air and Naval Personnel. @@bobbemis8911 Yeah, but I had been learning to play cav in Medieval II, so my style of cav play is pretty much outdated in Empire. Also I can't see how useful can a unit of 60 infantrymen be. Honestly I just prefer to use light dragoons, they work more like mounted lines and don't need to unmount in order to shoot. They fit my style of multiplayer gameplay better, and in single cav is useless anyway. At least from what I managed to observe in my prettu short 100 hours of gameplay.

Ashtyn & Jon aren't exactly the most intellectual of channels, I've never actually seen them actually say anything worthwhile, they don't even seem to understand the content they are viewing in any way. it gets even worse with the warhammer 40k videos when you can tell they don't have any clue what they are talking about. the only reaction channel I watch, every now and then, are the renegades who actually discuss topics similar to the videos, their reaction video to "what if the purge was real" causes an in depth discussion about anarchy and world governments. whereas Ashtyn and Jon just sit there.

I think another point about the bayonet, is that bayonets were often used after the gun has been fired, and thus empty. Plugging the barrel of an empty gun, especially a musket, doesn't make the gun less effective any more than putting pants on a dead skunk helps the stench.

  • @Marveryn

normally when order to fix Bayonet the enemy is danger close. Otherwise you have time time to reload for one more volley. So by that time you may not need to fire again. but with the improvement it allow to fix it sooner not wasting time for them to get closer.. if they start to flee or find time to reload you can without removing it. but like Brandon said stuff like that just don't happen. Its kind of like the remote. Ashley would look at the tv and wonder why there nob to change the channel when you can use the remote. Cause princess the tech for the remote haven't been invented and the idea on how to crafted haven't been thought about as it was being invented. Gawd hearing her make me wonder if she even went to school.
