Ashoka's Dhamma - Measures To Keep The Empire Prosperous | Class 6 - History | Learn With BYJU'S
Dhamma a Prakrit word for ‘Dharma’, was a set of moral principles that Emperor Ashoka preached to his subjects. It was not a religion and hence, did not involve worship of any god or even animal sacrifice. Ashoka considered it his duty to teach his subjects about morality; just like parents instruct their kids. He appointed “Dhamma Mahamattas”, they travelled to different parts of the kingdom and preached Dhamma, including countries like Syria, Egypt, Greece and Sri Lanka. Learn more about Emperor Ashoka’s practice of Dhamma and how it created harmony in his kingdom in this video, watch now!
