Spirit of the Game exhibit A: Bairstow attempted the exact same thing by trying to catch Marnus Labuschagne stepping out of his crease two days earlier. Spirit of the Game exhibit B: England coach Brendon McCullum as keeper has many identical dismissals. (Mpofu 2005, Muralitharan 2006, Collingwood 2009) Spirit of the Game exhibit C: Broad edging a ball to slip but refusing to walk, an edge the English quick has since admitted to. Spirit of the Game exhibit D: Ollie Robinson telling Usman Khawaja to "F*** off" after dismissing him on 141. Spirit of the Game exhibit E: The MCC long room behaved disgracefully. Not surprisingly three MCC members are now suspended. Spirit of the Game exhibit F: The crowd chanting that Australians are cheaters. Actually the only person convicted of cheating in this series is England's Moeen Ali. Spirit of the Game exhibit G: England bowling 'Bodyline' on day 4, for a record 98% short balls. Also extremely boring to watch - so much for "entertaining bazball". Spirit of the Game exhibit H: England/fans not respecting umpires decision. This was not a bad LBW call, a missed no ball (etc)... this was within the laws. Spirit of the Game exhibit I: England using mints to shine the ball in the 2005 Ashes. (and Athurton using dirt to rough the ball) Spirit of the Game exhibit J: England keeper Ben Foakes stumping Irishman Andy Balbirnie after holding onto the ball for a far greater amount of time than what Carey did. I won't add Duckett not walking re Starc's catch, because we respect that rules are rules. I also won't add England's controversial win over New Zealand in the World Cup final involving Stokes himself as there's been no shortage of comments about that.

I love how the ex - captains and the press tried to deflect to the "cheap seats" and the "barmy army"... only complaint the Aussies made was about the members because they literally have to inhabit the same room as them. As usual in England, everyone rushes to protect the upper crust pampered pricks. All Aussies love the Barmy Army... yes they can get full on at times, but they're actually good natured, they'll appreciate if a player takes their chants with good humour and such.

True, it was a wonderful test match spoilt by England’s reaction to the Bairstow run out. England have been guilty of similar acts in the past. Yet they won’t talk about that they’ll carry on with this. The fact is Australia won and they did nothing wrong. Would England have done similar? Absolutely Stokes saying after the match we wouldn’t have done that etc. what about the World Cup final wasn’t that spirit of the game? You can’t always act like a victim when you’ve done similar in the past.

Ever since I was a cricket playing kid in New Zealand Lords and the MCC were part of my cricket education. I was very disappointed in the members behaviour. Worse, i was amazed at the rank Hypocrisy of the crowd, and other England supporters. Pope ran out DeGrandhome last year when Colin wandered out of his crease, not seeking an advantage in very similar circumstances, England won and not a bad word was said. it was within the rules, as was Bairstows stumping.

I told all the cricketers I coached over the years that its the fielding sides job to bring the umpires into the game to make a decision and its the batting sides job to keep tbe umpires out of the game (ie not to be called on to make a decision) the only person responsible for the final decision is the umpire, the umpires will make that decision BASED ON THE LAWS OF THE GAME. If the batter has done something that brings the umpire into the game then the BATTER HAS FAILED AT THEIR JOB.

The cold look from Bairstow had to be the thumbnail, you got it right to garner some views.

Lords are encouraging the yob culture that has crept into English sport by not giving life bans to those disgraceful members who tarnished this great game.

I was on holidays 10 years ago on an organised tour of Europe with an English tour guide. He noted Australians were much more gentlemanly than his English compatriots.
