Ashanti King Abandons TT Emancipation Day Parade
King of the Ashanti people of Ghana, Asantehene abruptly abandoned the Emancipation Day parade just as it begun. Much to the bewilderment and confusion of the organisers of this year's Emancipation Day celebrations, the king and his entourage, who began the parade walking alongside the prime minister of Trinidad & Tobago, abandoned the parade and jumped into SUVs parked on a nearby street. The vehicles then took off, driving the wrong way up the street. The Ashanti king was the specially invited guest for the 2023 installment of Trinidad & Tobago's annual Emancipation Day celebrations and street parade - celebration of African pride and heritage.
