Wow! Awesome job. I got that bike in 1976 for my 13th birthday. I rode that thing from dawn to dusk for years with my best friend who had the exact same bike given to him one week after me. Great times in New Hampshire and Great memories! Honda really knocked it out of the park with these bikes. So reliable and fun. Beat the hell out of it and it still asked for more!!! Peace!

My first bike was a 76 XR 75, in the early 90’s, perfect beginner bike, I loved it. I’d really like to have another one for a pit bike. 👍🏻

Great work, how is the paint holding up on the frame? was thinking of powder coating my own but prefer the painted finish

Andy Forsberg hi there, I’ll admit I haven’t ridden it yet due to other projects, so I’m happy to say the paints holding up very well 😅 Choice of painting depends on a number of things. Powder coat is the toughest. Stove enamel is original factory method but chips easily. Some people can get amazing results with brush painting but takes a nak to do it.

@@ashhallam1674 think i might have to go for the powder coating option as i hope to take it for the odd ride. Did you get all your parts from re-mx or is there anywhere else as ive quite a few parts to get, trying to source a left crankcase cover at the moment at its proving difficult.

Andy Forsberg if you’re riding it then strongly recommend powder coating. But only by somebody who knows what they’re doing - too often I see it applied far too thickly, to the point where you can’t see frame welds etc. Doesn’t need to be that thick. Most major pets from re-mx, and for nuts and bolts I used cmsnl (Dutch site, great for part number searches). Also David silver spares in the UK is good. Best of luck with it! You’ll find the kill switch is the hardest part to get hold of.

Apologies for the late reply. All of my electrical parts were from Re-MX. Very knowledgeable guy there he will answer any questions oh my have.

mikerafone music that was the first time I had kicked her up after restoration, of course things were going to be a bit out of place. Rest assured she sings beautifully now.

How did you get the Plastics (front & rear mudguard) so New... I'm going to struggle with mine as they are 40 years old, don't think I can paint Plastics???..

Hi there. I bought new plastics from a place in Maryland called Re-MX. The guy called Dan is very knowledgeable in XRs and sends the stuff over to the UK. I then sprayed over them with the exact same paint I used for my tank to get an exact match!

Ash Hallam Thanks for the heads up Ash, your bike it Top Stuff, love the polished Alloy!!.. Don't know if I'm a fan of spraying plastic as I'm sure it'll crack-split it time?, I may be wrong? I'll look into it, many thanks for the speedy reply, cheers dude!!..

Thanks man, appreciate it. Yes the high polish is obviously not standard but I like it so what the hell. I suspect paint would flake off paint over a short time but before I decide to rag this one around a field I have made it a showpiece for a few years and entered it in to a few shows. Once all that’s over, I’ll make some practical adjustments and ride it. It’s different for a road bike as it is a dirt bike - with a road bike you can at least keep it clean, but with a dirt bike, once you’ve had it round a field and got a few paint chips it’s all over for showing
