    Idk about psychopathy, but she displays pretty realistic identity-disorder in the books, feeling so much trauma and self-hatred for her former identity as Arya that even before becoming a Faceless Man she’s already got a bizarre distorted perception of her own identity, always reinventing herself as new personas like “the Ghost of Harrenhall” or “Cat of the Canals” to escape from the pain of being Arya Stark.

    Hatred for sadistic or psychopathic people is more common in empathetic people. Psychopaths are literally the least likely people to kill others out of a sense of justice or revenge for innocents who died. Ofc its just meant to grab attention

    @@tierefuerimmer9635 concepts like "empathy buried deep" has no meaning here but I get what youre saying and thats true about Arya. I'm talking about the wiring of her brain. I mean that Arya is more altruistic than the average person. Empathy isn't a trait, it's an action and not always a sign of goodness. But the Lannisters aren't psychopaths either. Joffrey comes close but studying Jeffrey's actions alone is misguided as sociopaths and mentally ill people can commit atrocities too be experience remorse, reluctance and fear. The Mountain and Ramsey are psychopaths even though they don't necessarily inflict more harm and death than Joffrey.

    Her entire story is about finding a pack, being alone and in so many different packs, she loses her identity. Which is why D&D fucker her up. They always saw Arya as a cool avenger, the smart dhild who can endure anything and will use her Needle to avenge her family. In truth, Needle was her only link the Arya Stark. She was a Mice, Ghost of Harrenhall, Arry the Orphan Boy, a Cat, a Beggar and No One eventually, she is detached from reality and moral values her family gave her. Nothing she was taught as a young girl works in the horrible situations she was forced to succumb, at one point, a woman questions how come she has a horse as an orphan, she just considers killing a defenceless woman on the spot but decides it's too risky with all the other people around. That's how she thinks in the books. It's all about kill or be killed.

    Thank you. I just had an argument with a stansa (that's how Sansa stans call themselves) about how Arya doesn't want to be a lady, but an adventurer and how Sansa would make a great queen. While I pointed out that Arya wants family, wants to go home, cares for the common folk, always did while her sister made fun of her for it. The same sister that throws feasts while the common folk are starving lol. But yes, Arya goes adventuring is something they want because then she'd be out of the way for Sansa 🙄

  • @7PlayingWithFire7

    @7PlayingWithFire7

    5 ай бұрын

    @@nishaajenkins your comment makes no sense whatsoever as a reply lmao. Arya feels powerless, and gains a sense of control by murder. This is really common with serial killers. Arya story isn't about finding where she belongs. In fact, she found a pack with the brotherhood (with Gendry and her fellow northmen, ned dayne, etc), but she abandons them when they are not out here exacting revenge upon everyone she deems deserving if it. She's impatient, has major trauma against not being in control, and priorotizes her moment to moment bloodthirst over anything else. Like how she doesn't name Tywin to Jaqen, but considers random servants who are mean to her. Tywin is an afterthought, after having wasted her names. Clearly you're an idiot or a lunatic Sansa hater cause first of all: Sansa haa never thrown a feast while the poor starve. Cause she's 13, she isn't in charge of any feasts nor does she have the power to. Secondly Sansa is one of the few characters who shows any form of concern for the common folk, and is one of the only characters to show true empathy and compassion to others, which Arya doesn't. So please tell me about ONE feast Sansa has thrown while people starve. It says a lot when the only argument you have against Sansa is a made up lie that literally never happened. Sansa is clearly being built up to become queen and to parallel queen Elizabeth I. Read the books or stfu before you make up stupid lies and spit more dumb wrong nonsense

    Not a "Stansa" or a "Jonsa" whatever tf that even IS, BUT Sansa has a pretty interesting story too. Sometimes we tend to forget how YOUNG these characters are. Sisters/Siblings fight ALL the time and bully each other. Even when Sansa wished it was Arya that was killed instead of Lady was a sibling fall out. As we know, through their thoughts they love each other. Arya also restored to being physical with Sansa by hitting her in the head with an orange and called her a Liar. They are all Liars. All of the Stark kids are fucked up mentally or dead. Rickon probably somewhere eating people, Bran is ALREADY eating people and Jon don't know if he is dead or alive.😅 It was a deep tragedy what they endured to be so young. Sansa resorted to armouring herself with courtesy. Can you imagine being at the mercy of someone like Cersi and the rest of those deranged MFS in KL AND LF whom constantly ask this young girl for kisses? Sansa is a product of Catelyn. She was groomed from birth for the role of queen. She thought it was her job to please a man and have his children. I actually think Sansa was alone and terrified and still is. Nobody EVER came for her that she knows of. Sansa is the ONE character tht pulled at my heart strings because she is so innocent and scared. She will lie to protect what's left of her, and it's Not her fault what happened to Ned or Lady. When Lady was killed Sansa had already lost a part of herself. I'm rooting for her in the books and I HOPE GRRM doesn't have one of those PREDATORS hurt her anymore.

So ye - between Littlefinger, the Lannister's, the Frey's, the Mountain's gang and the Hound and all their associated effects on her young life she's more than a little messed up in the head. Sansa suffered a continuous trauma through one individual (Joffrey), and a short spike of trauma through another (aunt Lysa). But Sansa was already older than Arya when the trauma began and she had far more opportunity to recover while Arya has suffered just trauma after trauma after trauma until she just sees the Faceless Men and their path of death as the only viable alternative left in life.

    She kills because she loved the people who were murdered. A classical psychapath does not have that kind of emotion. A classical psychpath does not feel empathy for other people, Arya does. She is not a psychopath, she is on a brutal revenge trip out of sympathy for her victim's victims and a sense of justice. A psychopath would kill for fun, or because it's convenient. Some of arya's victims are psychopaths. That said, feudal society does not map that well to modern psychological criteria.

    …… Hello there, comment 137 with the same misconception. Psychology 101: Psychopath - person unable to feel anything, devoid of any semblance of emotion. Psychopathic tendencies (different thing altogether) - selective ability to suppress sympathy/compassion for others. Anybody who would feel bad inflicting pain on people who they love, but feel indifferent/good inflicting pain on people whom wronged them DOES exhibit psychopathic tendencies. Any de-sensitized person does exhibit some extent of psychopathic tendencies. People who seek vengeance do, soldiers do, sadists do etc. So, they are not wrong.

    @@kingol4801You misunderstand 101 psychology, starting with the fact that diagnosis is supposed to happen in direct exchange between a professional and their patient. This is for very good reason and makes any and all attempts at doing so with fictional characters extremely unreliable. Furthermore, there are tendencies of absolutely every diagnosable mental condition found in pretty much every healthy human being you take a closer look at - it does not matter one bit when trying to assess wether a person does or does not suffer from any specific personality disorder. Arya can most likely be diagnosed with PTSD and is definitely extremely desensitized to violence. Beyond that she shows signs of sadism, though, again, (1) tendencies aren´t proof of a disorder and (2) to move past that in any way, shape or form you´d have to study psychology, get your master´s degree and then spend a couple weeks or months talking on a regular basis with a version of Arya that is cooperative and actually wants to figure it out herself. I don´t see that happening.

    Technically she exhibits psychopathic tendencies. Psychopath - dull/immune to notion of human emotion. They kill with the same attitude as eating breakfast, and they torture not because of some gratification (they cannot feel any period), but because of curiosity without breaks. Psychopathic tendencies - ability to selectively suppress sympathy. Sympathy - ability to relate to pain of others. Brakes that stop most people from inflicting severe pain onto others. Ability to empathize with victims etc. Any vigilante or soldier, de-factor, is de-sensitized and exhibit some extent of psychopathic tendencies. But that does not make them psychopaths. Psychopathy is predominantly born condition. It cannot be developed. But psychopathic tendencies/patterns of emotional response/behavior can be developed.

Arya exhibits mannerisms more in line with trauma and PTSD. She is someone who only stopped crying from the anguish she endured because she cried so much that she ran out of tears. But the sorrow and painful memories are still there, her ability to feel that pain got fried out and numb. Thats what you see when she kills Polliver, someone who is numb to the pain of her past. And Polliver isn't a psychopath either, he is a sadist. A Psychopath would have just left Lommy to his fate. They are more arbitrary about the lives of others. A sadist shows enjoyment for murder and relishes the how personal it is to take a life. Polliver showed more signs of being a sadist than a psychopath.

    Agreed. Finally sane comment after 200+ insane ones. Anybody who seeks vengeance exhibits PSYCHOPATHIC TENDENCIES (not to be confused with being psychopath). Psychopathic tendencies: Ability to selectively suppress sympathy/compassion for others. So, a person who is ok to inflict pain on one group (people who wronged them), but not others (their family/loved ones) exhibits such patterns of psychopathic tendencies. Which is the anti-thesis of being a human (compassionate creature) and not an animal. But I guess people would rather justify and rationalize vengeance than retain their compassion, it seems.

    Psychopathy isn't a general term just to throw around. Arya in the books, clearly has empathy and loves her family. If she has any disorder, it's not one of personality, but a mental disorder caused by immense stress & anxiety caused by all the trauma she has suffered.

  • @BrokenCurtain
    @BrokenCurtain10 ай бұрын

    Not a psychopath. A psychopath wouldn't be able to form a close relationship with other people - Arya's actions are motivated by deaths of people she cared about. Psychopaths also have poor impulse control and struggle to plan their actions or act with foresight. Arya on the other hand is in total control of herself and most of her kills are the result of extensive planning.

    Shes slowly becoming a psychopath. It started out as vengeance. By the time she leaves the faceless men she lacks emotions. You can see it in the show she is almost void of emotion but still loyal to her family.

    Arya had the saddest ending in the TV Series. She is going to wander off on here own to see what is west of Westeros. WHY? She is a faceless man, a hired assassin and knows that it is only a matter of time before she gets hired to kill a family member. So she wants to be as far away as possible so she won't be hired to kill those she loves.

    No she isn't a psychopath cause the whole reason why she has her list is she's tired of evil people hurting or killing people without any punishment. She saves Sam, when she could've just let him get mugged or stuck up. The only reason why she killed the insurance broker was because she was told he's stealing money from widows. She clearly has empathy and while she can act on impulses, its usually due to the fact her whole world was uprooted and destroyed, and she had to leave the relm as a whole because she had nothing or no one left there she could realistically get to. She is more confortable in killing people, but its when she believes they deserve it for their crimes with values instilled in her by her father. And with her contemplating killing people like Gendry or Hotpie, its because if she is outed as Arya of House Stark, her being served to Joffery and Cersei on a silver platyer will be one possibility of what can happen to her.
