thank you with complete and comprehensive guide of stacking. We've stack of 5 Aruba 2930M switches, Member 4 diagnosed with some bad ports which needs to be swapped with a new switch. We do schedule a down time but I'd like to know the process to swap member 4 from the existing stack. Priority of all 5 switches have been set already.

Knowing the available switch numbers (SNs) and Candidate MAC addresses, you can manually assign a Candidate to be a Member of the stack: Syntax: stack member mac-address For member in the middle yes you should schedule a change window as you will have to break the stack.

I don't have another Aruba switch to show vsf, but for link agg you do you mean Mlag multi chassis link aggregation or Lacp ? I have some videos on that using Arista Mlag and Cisco VPC. Let me know

hello what would it be like to connect the stack of two aruba 2930f switches with two cables port 25 from switch 1 to port 26 from switch 2 port 26 from switch 1 to port 25 from switch 2

So you want to create VSF using these 2 Aruba 2930f and those ports you mentioned , is that right ? Here is a HPE guide. Start around page 720 onwards. Good doc to keep. support.hpe.com/hpesc/public/docDisplay?docId=a00050273en_us

Hi, how to add a new switch to the existing vsf? for example, i have 3 existing switches, how to provision the new one? My switch is 2930F.

(config)# vsf member 4 link 1 A20 Made sure the 4th switch doesn't have any config. Wipe it out. Connect the 4th switch to switch 1 port 20. That's it

This was just what I was looking for. Just unboxing 11 Aruba 2930M switches to stack in two stacks and could not find decent guidance in the HPE documents. You save my day. However I have one question? Do I configure them first seperately with a fixed ip address and upload the latest firmware?

No sir, stack them 1st then do the stack aos upgrade. You can do the configuration before or after the stack upgrade. Let me know if you need help.

@@TwT101 Thx for your quick reply. Do you assign the stack with an ip address so you can configure them from there, and if so how? Or do they remain individual units to connect to in order to configure them?

You need to do some basic configuration for the stack. Create some vlans, SVI's, spanning-tree configs. Connect to this switch stack using console to do all this and later you can use ssh to connect on SVI IP address. kzread.info/dash/bejne/fqeay7GJecbQYso.html shows how to do all those.

Hi, is it posible to create a stack with macsec modules with SFP+, instead of using stacking modules ? For instance if you are going to move one of your aruba 2930m switch to another location which is more than 100 meters away. Thanks

2930F and higher you can use vsf to achieve this. Not possible with 2930m switches.

I am not sure if i missed something in the video (i have rewatched a few times) but why the first time you applied the stacking why did it not hold correct order after the powerdown? But did the 2nd time.

I was simulating a power outage and mistakenly pulled power on standby first, hence standby came up before Commander. Later I did a boot system so the whole stack restarted and I was able to show that the commander stayed commander. Are you getting certified? Let me know what other Aruba products you have worked with.

@@TwT101 Ah thanks for explaining! No not getting certified, I have a deployment coming up that uses 4 of these Switches in a Stacked Configuration, I’ve worked with these series of switches before so I’m just brushing up on my knowledge a bit. Only other Aruba products I actively use is the Aruba Instant-On switch series.

thanx for the good video :) Maybe you can give a hint, how to add a fourth switch to a existing stack of three ( ring setup ) Is it necessary to reconfigure everything, or is it enough to plug in the cables and boot the new switch. Thanx in advance.

Add the 4th switch while it's powered off. Connect the stacking cables and power on the 4th switch. Monitor the console message and you will see the 4th switch being added. It's that simple.

@@steelsteez6118 I always prefer to do a stack upgrade but if this is an existing stack and you are adding a new switch of the same models, I would schedule a down time window for the stack upgrade.

@Steel Steez Follow these steps: 1. Schedule outage. You will have to break Ring stacking topology to add the new switch to the stack. Make sure priorities are set in your existing stack members. Install stacking module in your new switch then turn in back on while it is not connected to any stack. just by itself. If you turn on the switch and then add the stacking module, you may have to enable stacking in the config. 2. Turn off the existing stack. 3. Make sure new switch has the same AOS installed. You may have to downgrade if this is an old Stack. Alternatively you can upgrade the existing stack to the latest stable version. Do the same for your new switch. This way all members have same version. 4. Break the ring topology and add the new switch to the existing stack. Power on switch 1, wait 3-5 min and then switch 2 and continue until all members are powered on. Monitor console. When all switches are booted up, you will see the new switch as a member to your stack. Hope this help.
