The craziest part of this recording is that each time a notification comes up Cory looks up like something’s going on

Arturo Sandoval has been a monster for over 60 years. Heck of a piano player himself. Love Cory Henry.

The hardest thing to do for the newer generation of players is to play bebop or swing and not to revert to playing “out” as an escape - meaning you don’t have the language under your fingers so you play “out” as a means to cope with your lack of language

You are right At 86,I keep the study of bebop present ,which I still can t cut ,because it informs my third stream noir style

i feel exposed lol but yeah, playing jazz in this day and age means playing within a certain context that is a lot more open to dissonance and 'out' playing. young cats who play out do so not just because they are not as good as the old ones. they just dont feel too compelled to play 'in' all the time. bird and all the old cats play 'straight' just because that's what they think is hip. but in the ears of the cats older than them, the stuff that bird and all them bebop guys were too 'out'
