We are so very proud of this next Featured Artist episode for two reasons ...
First - we're featuring the incredible contemporary artist Annie Labbé!
Second - this is our first Featured Artist interview in French!
( with English subtitles, of course! )
Annie Labbé is an abstract artist based in Quebec City, Quebec. An introduction to photography as a teenager opened the door for Annieinto the art world, where she soon discovered her love of painting. Inspired by Quebec's mighty St. Lawrence River, Annie started with a series of landscape abstracts before transitioning into the colourful, geometric paintings she is so well known for.
Annie maintains that art is a series of choices - what to keep and what to erase, what tools to use and how - and these individual decisions collectively create the whole work. In Annie's art, she draws on her passion for architecture, geometric lines and colour: the choices made around these equally important components create worlds in her paintings that invite the viewer to explore. Colour placement is just as important as line placement: harmonious, happy colour palettes keep the mood light and playful, while a 3-D effect further pulls the viewer in, engaging both their eyes and mind as they travel streets, climb stairs and navigate their way through her painting.
ArtResin's Jeff and Pat recently spent dropped by Annie's studio in Lévis, Quebec, to film her painting and to chat about her artistic goals, how she continuously feeds her creativity, and because she works alone, the importance of surrounding herself with the support of an artistic community.
Enjoy :)

A wonderful lady that is very passionate about her art, very interesting comment Annie made about creating a piece above all else, the perfect piece, would she stop after that. Great video ArtResin as always. Thankyou for the share. :)

I found that super interesting too, Peter! With her drive, I wonder if she could ever stop creating art, even if she felt she had reached that pinnacle? I loved listening to her speak!

I'm always in research for THIS perfect artwork...but when I have the feeling that I'm close of it, something else comes up and show me that I'm not done. Like more we live, more we see we don't know anything about life. Same thing with the artprocess. Thanks for your great comments!

Whilst very interesting - not really enough information incorporated about the resin itself?! So she is putting art resin straight on canvas??? All the sellers and artists I talk to say this should not be done as within 2-5 years it cracks the canvas off the frame!!? This is a stressful concept when wanting to sell art as a professional. What is art resins take on this usage?

Hi Krystal - We have lots of videos on our KZread channel about ArtResin and how to use it, but these Featured Artists videos are meant to be about the artists and their creative process, and not at all about ArtResin :) I can't speak for other resins out there and how they behave over time, but canvas cracking off the frame is not something I've ever heard about from our customers. We have many pieces of art here in the studio that are at least that age and they still look great :) We usually always advise, and particularly with larger pieces, is to use wood panels rather than stretched canvas as the weight of the resin can cause the canvas to stretch and pool. Dave speaks about this here: kzread.info/dash/bejne/c35sz9SDaLq9pag.html Hope this helps!
