    There is a nugget of truth though because I don't watch Artosis that much but I saw him play a game where he basically won the opening had an advantage and then just sat back and macro'd for like 10 minutes, and lost in a drawn out game. It is hard to play aggressive as Terran though. Flash is the only Terran that can just rush / bust people, and it sort of skews what you think is possible for someone who isn't Flash lol. But from what I see these days he is improving quiet a bit. You can't always do everything at once like the pros.

    He already said: They do that in tournaments but for training you want to try improve on that macro war ("get more ahead"). Of course I personally like to see that "busting" also trained, and it's also fun for the fewer if it does work. But it's mor of a sc2 thing.

  • @monkeymoo87
    @monkeymoo872 жыл бұрын

    I think his issue is not expanding aggressively enough. When you can’t kill your opponent but you have an advantage you should snowball your advantage by taking 2-4 bases or even the entire map and just out expand and out macro your opponent by a huge margin. I’ve seen Larva do this when he plays random against lower skill opponents but Artosis just takes one additional base when he should be taking 4 or 5 extra bases and win handily

    @3:18 - the discussion about not attacking. Whilst I find the arguments valid for BW, Artosis also played SC2 like this (i am thinking of NASL) and was clearly not attacking and taking advantage of his early lead. inControl was pointing this out on the commentary over and over. So, I think this is not just a strategy, but also Artosis' inherent reluctance to attack.

    @@Broockle I agree, they need better resources if they're going to make the map totally black. However, I do feel that changing anything gameplay-wise is a slippery slope when it comes to Brood War. So much of what makes the game interesting is people trying to build around the extremely aged and technically bad game mechanics. If you change *anything* you run the risk of disrupting one of the oldest still evolving metagames in history. I'm honestly surprised they've fixed the glitches and improved graphics where they have.

Fighting games have the same issue, which is why it's considered polite to always Bo3 on ranked, bc winning one game doesn't really mean anything and we're trying to train for tournament situations. I wonder why SC doesn't have a standard of doing sets online vs single games?

    I will explain it.. Artosis knows everything about the game.. The reason why he has trouble is simply because he doesn't have the speed of pro players. You need to do so much shit at once , there are times when he's focusing on something he isn't marco'ing where as flash is constantly going back to his bases and producing units even in the middle of a heated battle. .. You need like over 300 APM to play terran at a level above Artosis. Otherwise if he had the technical finger skill and multi-tasking he would be a top player. He knows the game better than 99 percent of people in the world.

    Why would you cheese on ladder? That makes zero sense. You want to cheese as little as possible so when you cheese in an actual tournament, it is so much stronger. Terran isn't the race where you can get an advantage and then end the game with a clutch zero hesitation attack. Another big trap for players of RTS in general is that they adjust too much. They lose to something, so they adjust. But they adjust far too strongly, which causes them to lose against something else.

    The Special Team in Football. Tipping in Volleyball. Dropshots in Tennis. Fundamentally, these are not optimal strategies, or "meta". They are, essentially, "cheese". But they work as a sudden change of tactics, breaking the flow and expectations of your opponent. This is why they exist and are used in the first place. Of course they aren't used every game, or every round, or every time you have possession - they aren't optimal. But they can get points - they're viable. Artosis simply cannot accept that, because a successful "cheese" in BW is the difference between victory and defeat. In Tennis, or Volleyball, it is over a single point. It is a manner of thinking and comprehending loss. Artosis needs to get out of the mindset that he's playing BW like a scrimmage against a pro, to get better at the game. No. You are not organizing a practice with a pro athlete, you are randomly engaging in a skill-based matchmaking cue that is going to pair you with some random opponent. Is that disappointing? Sure. Are you disappointed in your fellow broodwar player? Fine. But you shouldn't be so angry about it - this is not surprising. You get what you put in to the game, and you're choosing to play against randos on a ladder in a game that is "balanced" towards cheese due to one-game matchmaking.

He said it better but yeah, cheese can get you easy wins but you don't get better at the game. You don't even get better at cheesing because cheesing is already easy, it's rock paper scissors, if you play your rock cheese and they played macro scissors, you win, as long as you are halfway decent. If you want to get better, cheesing is a waste of time, as he said.

    I wonder if just vultures to harass is the problem. I'm no expert so I'm probably completely wrong on this, but what about doing some tank drops for some pressure? Vultures just seem like they're garbage against anything more than probes and zealots, but if he can get a couple tanks sieged up on an expansion he could probably do some decent damage. It'd be quite a bit of an investment depending on when, but it would take more of an investment for them to defend against.

    You use vultures to harass after they lay mines cause they only cost minerals, don’t need addon, and build hella faster than tanks. When terran loses their tanks they can’t replace them fast.

    I imagine that anyone playing on the ladder whom runs into Artosis knows that 95% of the time he won't throw in some crazy build or flat out rush right from the get go. So other players recognize him and take advantage of it by often taking risky builds themselves, like Terrans going CC first, or not even bothering to check for proxies. Players who are known for certain builds just switch to barcode names to hide their playstyles, but Artosis is always Artosis. There's really only one solution to this, Artosis should spend entire weeks/month doing nothing but mixing in CC first, proxy stargates, and flying scv builds into his playstyle regardless of whether he wins or loses, that way his opponents will begin to fear him when they see his ID. Let's be honest chat, every one of you wants to see this.

    As artosis says, cheese on the ladder is truly a waste of time. Of course you can practice those types of builds to have it in your reportoire, but primarily on the ladder, for best practice, you wanna be grinding out your macro openers since they have more depth and potential for improvement.

    Arty's gameplay is fine, it's his mental that makes him suffer. He's always so ready to blame his opponent for being terrible and that's how they win instead of looking at his own play and seeing what he can do to prevent that kind of thing from happening again in the future.

    True to an extent. I’ve seen him call his opponents trash when he gets salty (which is basically all the time when he’s grinding) and then admit that same player was really good once he’s calmed down. I know some people like Artosis. In the heat of the moment, every opponent is fucking trash or garbage lol but he knows deep down if the player was simply better than him, just won’t admit it out of rage.
