great observations. mitchell was in full control, no smears just every stroke was controlled layering of the materials on each other. the big difference between her twombly and pollock. pollock refined his insecurity into a genious act of revolutionary paintings by freeing the material in its last step on the canvas

Perfectly good starts. Again and again, repeatedly. But as soon as she's about to get somewhere, she stops.
Joan s paintings pulled you in. They were never boring and never repetitive. Stanley’s paintings are great but his vocabulary is limited. It repeats itself a bit too much.

Just because abstract art doesn't appeal to you or make you feel anything doesn't make it bad or insignificant & certainly not a con. Most artists never see a penny for their work; it's about expressing feelings in a visual language. People either relate to it or they don't
