Artistic Dilemma: Which Layer Wins? Acrylic Pouring Swipe , Scoop & Drag

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

I decide to practice the loaded palette knife swipe technique and a few scoop and drags. I wasn't sure about my first effort so decided to go over it. Did I do the right thing? which one do you prefer? At the end of the day it's all practice!

I did like the first one. The green really added to the 2nd one. They both look good!

Love the way the original turned out so elegant and interesting. It’s hard to stop if you don’t like the original. I’m going to try what you did first.

Thanks Janice 😊 When I was exiting I was thinking the same thing. The first one was better. I have to just realise this is all part of the learning process, and there will be bigger and better things to come for it 😉

I love the first one. The colours were better . The orange gave it a real lift. The only part I wasn't keen on was the two lines near the top going straight out to the side. I felt they should have gone up or down to match the other lines in the painting. Regards Glenis

Ohhhh I’m rather partial to blues I’m using up my leftovers and have run out of blue time to buy more paint. I liked the first and second. Not sure which I liked more. The spinning definitely was the way to go. 😊

I like them both. They both had very different character. I think my favorite though is the end result of your second try. You made some wonderful decisions in adjusting the shape, and I think all of your fiddling paid off. Could you please tell me, are your colors just A combination of paint mixed with your pouring medium of floetrol, and Liquitex pouring medium?

Thank you 😊. No these are my bloom paints so I used British paints walls interior for the base and the colors are mixed with Taubmans Sunproof exterior neutral base. I have added a little Floetrol to thin them down. The the swipe mixis only mixed with Australian Floetrol 😉

I prefer the first version. I may have missed that information, but does any of the colours you apply on the knife has cell activator? Or are the cell/laces that are formed just from the floetrol you mix in the white base paint? Also, it is so satisfying to watch the paint being dragged and lifted, but I cannot to it. Can you please share the formula/recipe of your colours? Thank you in advance.

Thank you 😊 The Black paint that I added to the palette knife was the cell activator. It is 1 part Amsterdam Oxide Black mixed with 3 parts Australian Floetrol.
