I think this needs to be clear to producers and producers. There have been many discussions online (esp Twitter) where even producers are saying you should give up *song* ownership if you're not actively involved in promotion or financing the artists project. But no, it's ownership of the recording. If I sell an exclusive to someone, that's YOUR record. I just want the publishing for my contribution, nothing more.

Really depends on the situation, always good to establish guidelines in the beginning between artist and producer 🤝

@@Beatstars Yeah, of course there are situations where these things shift. Heck, the things mentioned in the video. Question/problem is what's the cost of that in a straight up "I'm the producer, she's the rapper"? Who would ever advise a producer to give up their song rights for $500, or even $1000? It happens, but that's short money.

This isn't clear. Are we talking about composition or master royalties?

They were talking about composition (publishing) the first half. The second half they're discussing split of the "master" or "sound recording".

Imagine a worker showing up to a job and completing 1 shift and then receiving a percentage of the company going forward.. only in music 😂😂 … imagina a no name BEATMAKER with no star power that didn’t help pay for studio time, cover art, music video, rehearsal, merch startup fees, tour start up fee, marketing/promo, content creation, etc… receiving 50% master & publishing.. that’s a 50% stake in a company for 1 shift of work ..
