Good amount of effort to tell the story of the song. don't worry, tom, people noticed, it was worth the stinging eyes. There is so much thought put into this song At first, the protagonist sounds very robotic, despite feeling almost every human emotion, indicating he is yet to reach desired level of being human. He felt them all but one - the need to send a photo of his genitals to some strangers. But does he really need to? In the second chapter of the song, our hero is getting closer to reaching his goal. He experiences stronger feelings, like seeing his robot crush making out with robot douchebag. He goes home and sings how sad and alone he feels. This is the moment of transformation. He realizes, that the essence of humanity isn't just a set of rules, it is the ability to feel wide spectrum of emotions, simple and more complex ones, but also to be human is to be self-aware of how and why one feels a certain way (note how he says he is glad to be sad, because that means he does indeed feel real emotions). His voice also changes to sound more human-like - just like Pinocchio, he turns into a real boy. The third chapter tells another story - he is not a robot anymore, he is human (despite not feeling the need to send a dick pic). But there is one more thing he is not anymore - he is not pure of heart. His desire to become human turned him into a wannabe slaver. He claims to be superior to the human race because of said pictures (or lack of them). This is where we come full circle - the voice is again very robotic, indicating his descent into previous state, by which I mean being not-human. Is it because of his violent tendencies - can we call a human someone with such evil plans like enslaving the whole planet? Or does he turn into a robot by choice, after comprehending what he thinks it does mean to be human? Note how the song comes full circle, ending with the same verse it starts, almost identically, but being cut when we least anticipate it. Why does it end that way? Did the robot end himself? Or, since he considers himself a human now, or even something more, the song ends because he is no longer the subject of it? It leaves a nice space for interpretation, catalizing discussions and thoughts like this one.

The robotic voice at the end could be a final brief reflection of the lost of innocence which the robot looks back to his naive self where only emotions he felt was love, pain and antici-pation. Yet he could not turn back, he has succumbed to the jealousy and disgust of his lack of penis and inability to send unsolicited picture of it. The only way he could respond to such heavy emotion is to enslave us all!

I just listened to it again. You hear the heartbeat in that part? This robot is more human than any of us.

I feel like the genuine premise of this song is acceptance. This Robot desires to be a human, but is missing something, not only the lack of urge to send pics to people online, but acceptance, he states “I can’t feel all the ways it feel to become human,” and this is why he is not human. Near the end of the song, he accepts that he is not feeling all the feelings and this makes him human, at least up until the rage comes back. He wishes to rid the world of these vile humans he used to wish to become, out of jealousy, and starts to lose his acceptance of himself as human. He then returns to his Artificial state. And until we see him again, we wait in antici

The sigh he does at 2:16 makes such an interesting sound into the mic. At first I though it was meant to be a stock sound you might hear in a video game but after watching the video again I'm amazed to see that it was just him sighing.

I'm a high school teacher, and last year one of my students asked me if I'm afraid of A.I. I said, "of course not." She asked why I'm not afraid of computers taking over the world. For some reason, my class was surprised when I said that computers can't possibly do a worse job running things than we have done.

It's difficult to express how impressed I am with these songs, they are hilarious and this one is legitimately one of the most catchy songs I've ever heard. Your expanded versions feel like they were made this long from the start and not just repeating the old verses as well. I was very excited for this and my expectations were blown out of the water! Great work!

I love how it is comedy musicians that more consistantly manage to make me get on the verge of tears. Bo burnham did it to me with "can't handle this", and you, with this songs, as well. There's something magical about these kinds of songs that manage to make you laugh your ass off and get your eyes wet in a matter of seconds. It's just beautiful, you're trully talented my guy

This song has every single thing i love about Cardy's music, the perfect blend of his talent for songwriting, surprising emotional sincerity and, ofc, hilarity, amplified to perfection. the pacing of the jokes/narrative turns is so good (the unexpected first chorus! the poor robot getting sexually harassed - and then deciding to enslave mankind - and as a woman who has been on omegle before honestly i support him - down to the final, very extremely mean lyric just long enough after the first "antici...pation" that i knew i should have seen it coming but i did not) but the blend of farce with sincerity is so smooth in this one. (the little sigh into the mic after the robot has to leave a party is such a detail!) like yeah.... i DO remember that i can feel and then i feel glad... that IS what it means to be human.... And musically it is amazing. The man can write the shit out of a song! i shared this with my mom, whose expression of hopelessness every time i tell her i want her to watch something and she realizes it's tom cardy again makes me feel guilty but not guilty enough, and when the first "i've never felt the need to send a photo of my penis to a stranger on the internet..." came on she just slowly and silently laid her hand over her cheek and i think about that every time i watch it now. yeah! it's the perfect song! and i love it so much

I forgot to say that I love how both the serious+comical parts come together to support the theme that the nature of humanity is the urge for connection but also that we are innately alone and our means of connecting are inherently imperfect. ie you want to connect so bad but in order to do so you have to open yourself up to the risk of receiving unwanted dick pics.

Ignoring the obvious things about this song (incredible quality and hilarious story), I thought I'd mention that the tone of this song and synths used give me such a heavy sense of nostalgia, something I've been missing since middle school. It's truly incredible that you can remind me of things i'd nearly forgotten about, and for that I wanted to thank you.

Yknow, this song has hit me in a way you probably weren't expecting. I relate to the robot, not about the dick pic thing lol, but because I've only recently been able to feel my emotions fully, and even when I cry now, I'm honestly happy to be able to cry. I'm a trans girl who started estrogen 2 months ago. One of the things they don't tell you often is how it affects not only your body, but also your mental and emotional state. When I lived as a guy I felt completely emotionally stunted, and I hated it. Now I laugh and cry fully, and it's one of the best things I've ever experienced. So, I too am feeling how it feels to be human for the first time. And it really is beautiful

the ability to feel can be such a horrible thing sometimes, but when you feel something good, its the best thing ever!! im so happy for you and that you’ve started hormones! feeling like you’re finally yourself is such an amazing feeling, and even though I dont know exactly what its like from your exact situation, I can understand how great it can be from other experiences ive had regarding self identity!
