Artificial Intelligence and Epilepsy: The Promise & Pitfalls of AI in Diagnosis and Treatment
This month on Seizing Life® we explore artificial intelligence as it relates to epilepsy care, how it’s impacting epilepsy diagnosis and treatment today, and what it promises for the future.
We hear the term all the time, but what is AI and how does it relate to epilepsy research and treatment? Who better to explain than neurologist and artificial intelligence expert, Dr. Daniel Goldenholz of the Goldenholz Epilepsy + Data Science Lab at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Dr. Goldenholz walks us through the evolution of AI in epilepsy and the role that AI currently plays in epilepsy research diagnosis, seizure detection, and prediction. Will AI one day play a role in epilepsy surgeries, wearable devices and other treatments, or are we already there? What are the ethical issues concerning AI and medical care and can some of the potential pitfalls be avoided? This episode offers an easy-to-understand overview of artificial intelligence as it’s being implemented in epilepsy care now and provides a glimpse into the future exploring how AI will change the lives of people with epilepsy as well as the training and role of neurologists.

My son has intractable epilepsy. Medications vns and we have used the embrace watch. Still seizures. I pray for a cure one day.

I also have intractable seizures, for the past 45 years. I have spoken to my neurologist/epileptologis regarding AI. (for seizures). I want to try it, and looks like it has mostly upside and very little downside. Talk to your neurologist!! Good luck!!

@@sandikobilansky8766 Hi back again......I just read about neurolink, and I have spoken about the chip to my neurologist and they have been working on ai chips for several years. Neurolink sounds like a great type of ai chip, and I will contact my neurologist/professor at Rush pres. St. Lukes in Chicago. Thats where I had my brain surgery done in 1987, but the seizures slowly came back. Sounds like neurolink has many other possible helpful "tricks" for the brain. Memory, etc..... Thanks for the info!!!!

It is a heartbreaking to watch someone you love experience the impacts of epilepsy. Know that we are unrelenting in our search for a cure.
Why do people still require meds years after successful surgery and more to the point there should be a system in place like their is for diabetes for insulin to get meds anywhere at same cost because many with Ep want to live abroad too but meds to expensive in other countries
