This kid comes the closest to Shaw in tempo and jazziness...excellent. He beats all the others I have heard on KZread! Excellent!!. By the way, his tone in the altissimo register is pretty well bang on. Super enjoyable at last!!!

Nice version! And a great performance by the young Mr. Griffith. Remember, the supreme clarinet player of all time (Artie Shaw) wrote this.

+Ronnie Moore I agree whole heartedly with your assessment. Artie Shaw had the best of everything, arrangements as well as musicians and singers. That's why he and his orchestras made the most significant contribution to American popular music that anyone ever has.

The most clarinetists they can do it glissando up to the final C...Wants more support from the stomach(breath) and little bit pressure on your lips....

Richard Bradley Clarinet I've actually heard it's not a gliss. It's just a very quick chromatic kind of smeared together. Honestly if you play it slowly chromatically and then work it up faster and faster and then once you have it up to a quick tempo then try smear the notes together as you play it

It’s not “supposed” to be a gliss. It’s usually just chromatic because of the fingerings. Also if you walk up to it it sounds more like a finale and more stylistically compelling, in my opinion

Interesting, Artie Shaw lived with his family for awhile in New Haven. He didn’t have an easy time there because of his ethnicity. Wonderful music. Thank you

He's an excellent classical clarinetist and in my opinion, should stay playing classical and stop trying to "emulate" Artie Shaw and jazz. I stopped listening after the first 15-20 seconds because those incessant scoops would turn Shaw over in his grave and no true jazz clarinetist would add that nonsense.
