And I am a little curious of how do you used the tuner you show it but never stayed how to used it .... Thanks

Hey Greg, you state that if you tongue with the tip, it’s okay. I too was trained with that method and currently experimenting with tonguing not with the tip. At first my tone sounded really pinched but after a day of really working it, it got better. Now I’m having trouble 1) being articulate in my tonguing (muddy or very legato), 2) being able to tongue in the upper register, and 3) volume control with the change. With the two methods, is one more beneficial than the other? Is it worth changing or can I not advance my playing without making this change? Thanks. Carlos

Hey Carlos, it is a real process of trial and error and simple experimentation. Depending on the sound and style you are wanting to play at any given time, things can vary. Just find your most free, full sounding note and try different positions. I certainly don't dictate what MUST be done as it changes for everyone. The important thing is sound and then recognising where any back pressure and choking/strain in the throat occurs. Also, you said "a day or two"... email me at info@mysterytomastery.com after a week or two. Things take a little longer than that :-) Cheers

As far as I am aware except for very short notes like in a Big Band the tongue should never stop a note so whereas all the videos I have watched are brilliant I disagree with him on this one issue. I also think it is also good to practise without the tongue to show that the note starts with the air and not the tongue. The tongue is just a touch. To move from a legato to a staccato approach I think a shorter vowel i.e. taaaaa taaa ta etc.

@Craig Sproston thanks for commenting. With much respect I agree but also must wholeheartedly disagree with you. The tongue stop is used far more often than just "short notes in a big band". Anyone who has seen all of my material knows that I use tongue stopping for technical development as well as for particular stylistic articulation (at the start and end of notes) as well as other articulations including breath attacks; breath attacks are very valuable I agree. Stopping the note with the tongue is an affect and you hear it everywhere in all styles of music. It is an odd technique to many, I know, but having an understanding and control of it will making one a more versatile player. Please watch kzread.info/dash/bejne/c2pmqMptlZTXeM4.html and kzread.info/dash/bejne/moiqsbGxgcW7hps.html I talk about the RELEASE of air, where and when it should be used. Thanks again, Greg.
