I think the problem with Arthur’s Big Hit is that they decided to do an episode that shows hitting people is wrong, but when they started writing it, they realized Arthur as a character would never hit anybody. Unless, of course, he’s extremely angry and upset, so they decided to write a scenario that would get Arthur that upset. But all that ended up doing was making Arthur seem sympathetic and a little justified in punching DW. They never corrected the imbalance.

One way I can see it done better is that Arthur is just having a really bad day. A bunch of bad stuff happens to him and when D.W is being annoying and not destructive, he lashes out. Letting his anger out by punching her. That way it shows hitting someone is wrong without the audience rooting for Arthur when he hits her.

@@OzzyNe0n They could've resolved it in a few ways, really. 1. Have DW be annoying but not constantly making Arthur's situation worse. Like say Arthur didn't constantly tell her not to touch it and she was given no implication it can't fly, then after she doesn't go "arthur you made that plane all wrong", instead saying something like "arthur, why didn't your plane fly when I threw it?" or something. It makes it sound more like an innocent mistake rather than active destruction. 2. Don't make Arthur's situation so bad that everybody isn't on his side, or at least acting like he did it out of nowhere. His friends know how annoying DW can be, especially Francine (extra sympathy given she has a sister). 3. Have the parents actually do something throughout the episode instead of treating DW like she did nothing wrong or "Dealing" with it off screen. And ESPECIALLY not at the end where they go "Yeah so Binky hit you, now you know how it feels." 4. Don't make Binky's thing a dare because that makes it seem like he's absolved of it. Make his situation like Arthur's should be: He's having a very bad day, nothing is going right, Arthur accidentally breaks something of his for parallels. Say that pen or something, like he got it as a gift, prize or it's from a place he likes to visit. 5. Keep the episode exactly the same but when DW starts in on him again after apologizing, Arthur uppercuts her. Not a good lesson but also deserved.

"Arthur's Big Hit" could quite easily have been a study on how the youngest child can be and often very much *is* aware of the status they hold and the sway that gives them concerning getting in trouble, especially when an older sibling is involved, especially knowing that provoking them is the quickest way to take the heat off themselves and get the older one in trouble by principle of being "the older one" and how Parents need to consider the issues at hand that led to such an outburst, especially in a child without a history of violent reactions to such provocation (Such as Arthur, in fact.) but, no, they just turned it into a "don't hit" and "you're bigger, be better" story. In other words, Parents, at a certain point, you have to quit treating your youngest like they're also the least learned and intelligent in the household, because more often than not, they're playing you like a harp.

I can't relate because I didn't go by initials, but I imagine it's similar to when your parents call you buy your full name, that happens you know you're in trouble. However I did have a friend that went by his initials, he actually preferred that and disliked being called by his full name, so while I can't relate I understand to some extent. Everybody has something about themselves they may be insecure with, some people might think of their name as fake, some might think it's special because other children don't go by their initials, but might be insecure about something else... can't think off top of my head, I knew someone that didn't have a favorite color? I'm insecure about a lot of things always have been so I don't know if I can state one of them as being a legitimate insecurity, I guess being into certain tv shows like Looney Tunes or Tom and Jerry, but if anyone questioned me they're classics and my great uncle is a grown man with a cowboy hat, guns, 4 wheelers... yet he's got Roar Runner merchandise all over his bedroom, even bought a Road Runner 69 and put Road Runner stickers, license plate, and a stuffed toy in it, when he passed away a couple years ago my dad who was closest to him drove his ashes home in the back seat of his car. Pokemon is another thing I was very insecure about for a long time, it's a child's game, one of my friends saw a Pokemon card and I said no it was my brothers. However you grow up, lots of adults still like those stuff they did when they were children, our childhoods are what defined us and made us who we are today, if anything people should be ashamed if they don't appreciate some things they enjoyed as a child, look at Peebs who still likes Arthur, and yeah maybe they don't sit down with their transformer toys and go pew pew pew, if they do that's them they shouldn't be shunned for it, but some people might also display them as decoration, disguised hidden among a bunch of car models. Also Pokemon is a lot darker than people give it credit for, lots of games I enjoyed as a kid had underlying adult elements, and the tag E doesn't stand for kid, it stands for Everyone. My point with the long winded speech, apologies, is it's nothing to worry about if you're insecure, and likewise you should be proud of your differences rather than feeling insecure, they make you who you are. Sadly school doesn't teach us these sorts of things, it's afterwards in adulthood you learn it, and for some kids the things they experience as a kid may traumatize and affect their adulthoods, not just that, the rest of their lives.

Arthur's parent and their constantly excusing D.W. behavior and never punishing her or trying at least to have a serious talk and make her understand what a little shit she is... it was the most annoying and unfair thing. She was aggressive and disrespectful towards adults too and these two were like: "You've been a bad girl and we're gonna protect you from the consequences of your action even if you just put an old lady on fire for fun", they just need to wait until she grows with this thought of being untouchable and ends up treating thm like shit, gets herself in serious trouble with the law or face someone who's not her brother and will beat her up for real, then they can see what happens when you spoil your child at the point you could stare at it kicking a newborn baby and still act like nothing's wrong and give only a little slap on it's hands. Seriously how many times she actually got a little useless "punishment", except being banned from eating out with the family? She even isulted her mother (in the episode about swear words... will you talk about that Peebs?) and still got off the hook 'cause: "You didn't know what this word (that you repeated and said to another kid waiting for her to say it and see what happens) means and I'm not even going to explain to you why it's bad to repeat it beside a simple 'it's hurtful for some prople', darling". Plus, I doubt Arthur buyed that plane with his own money and usually models like that aren't exactly cheap (at least where I live), that plane getting destroyed is parents' money getting wasted.

He is little more than a toddler so some misbehaving and Tantrums can be understood due to his young age, he's simply too young to completely understand the concepts behind some conducts. On the other hand, his parents are doing a miserable job by not educating the child from the very start. DW is almost a lost cause at her age. She is willingly malicious and knows she can do whatever she wants with little consequences. That's because her parents never actively scolded or grounded their Demon Spawn and they just went on with a slap on the wrist at most. I'm not talking about hitting children, mind you, just...be responsible and make them learn that each actions have consequences and that some lines must be drawn. They are not that stupid, if they can understand the process of Temper Tantrums to get what they want they can learn that sometimes you cannot have everything you want NOW. Ugh DW is so infuriating. I mean honestly, they can finally grow up now that the show is over. Haha. I always thought it must suck to be Arthur because he has to be in third grade forever basically. I mean, there are probably as many episodes of Arthur as there are days in an elementary school year. All the events of the show probably couldn’t even have practically happened in the same universe. Maybe each season of Arthur is an alternative universe of Arthur Read’s third grade. Every season is a different Arthur.

I always imagined that the characters from Season 15 and Season 16+ are different universes, and in the final episode, the newer characters travel to a world that looks like theirs, except "older" and the older characters are disgusted by the newer characters (Flash animation yucky yuck) and they have one epicly epic final battle and the newer characters get defeated. Also, isn't it funny how most kids' voices mature when they get older, but it's the opposite for Arthur? (especially Alan Powers).

I never really got to grow up with this show, but I know that feeling of still holding a childhood series near and dear to one's heart years later(and still collecting merch) lol. Before I go on my unrelated choldhood impact tangent, this really makes me want to watch Arthur. Man that model plane episode hit me hard. I paint models as a side hobby/hopeful side job, and my dad once broke a Zelda that took me a few days to airbrush and assemble. Still haven't been able to get a replacement kit of her. My dad seemed kind of put upon about the whole thing lol That DW Accumula town edit SENT ME. For me, TFA and TFP greatly impacted my childhood, and I was dragged kicking and screaming back to the transformers hellhole with Rise of the Beasts. RotB didn't really influence me much, but it made me rewatch old TF shows, seek out Armada, and I'm being legit when I say the MTMTE greatly impacted my adult life and emotional health in a positive way lol
