Heavy metal band from Sarpsborg in Norway. Initially formed in 1983 by guitarist Cato André Olsen and bass player Bernt Jansen, in 1984 guitarist Geir Nilssen, drummer Jørn Jamissen and vocalist Lars Fladeby all joined the band but they had formerly been with a local rock group called Oxygen. Espen Hoff replaced Mr. Fladeby as lead singer in 1985 but he died in a motorcycle accident later that same year and was replaced by Eiríkur Hauksson in 1986. Artch released two albums on USA label Metal Blade that got great reviews, especially in the English heavy metal press, but sales were disappointing. Drummer Jamissen left the band in 1991 and was replaced by Gudmund Bolsgård. They reformed in 2000 after a prolonged period of inactivity. The original lineup was again reunited summer 2010. (Eric, Brent, Cat, Gill and Jack)

Great, clear, classic vocals and solid riffs. This album never sounds old! I still don't know why I bought it back in 1988. Never heard of the band; it must have been in the bargain bin, but still one of my faves to spin. And it gets played often!!!!!!!

That’s how I purchased it. I was always on the lookout for unknown bands. Loved looking for bands I never heard of. If the album looked good and the band looked good I would buy it. Nine out of 10 times I was quite surprised by the quality of the bands. How good they were on song writing and musicianship being superb. This is one of those top bands along with Queensryche, Armored Saint and many more that I found that way.

OMG! The SAME! I saw it in a clearance bin at my college radio station. I turned it over and saw the Chevy Caprice station wagon being used as a hearse and I was like, I gotta get this. Played the record at home And was blown away! Very Dickson like. Manowar style music. The whole thing was great! I always wanted my band to cover this!!

@@SonnyGTA The 2nd album is very, very good and does follow in the vein of the first, but also you can hear the progression and where this band was going (until Grunge put an end to it). I got the Divebomb, remastered reissue with the extra tracks. Mankind is always on the car playlist!

The debut album of artch is one of the best heavy metal albums in my list of the 10 best heavy metal albums of all times, after their second album erik hawk the vocalist tried to replace bruce dickinson as the vocalist of iron maiden, he was one of many who tried to, he didn't got the job not because he's not good, but because they wanted a british vocalist, blaze bayley got the job in the end, all the members of the band are highly gifted, a great band plus two great albums, thanks for sharing.

Most people have never heard of these guys, and it's a damn shame. This was one of my favorite albums. They were very heavy, and had they started about five years earlier, maybe they would have had more exposure.

Tøfft. Dette var før debutskiva med samme navn, som kom ut i september 1988.
