ART TIP || The Glycerin Experiment

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

If you have been using watercolors for some time, chances are that some of your paints have dried and someone suggested glycerin to fix that. But adding glycerin is really a game changer?
Here's a comparison between untreated paint, straight from the tube and let dry, and paint with added glycerin.
(Spoiler Alert: The glycerin does it's dirty job and I do think I will be definitely using it in the future.)

Thank you for doing this video. Been wondering about adding glycerin to gouache. You did an excellent job of explaining and showing! I am neither an award-winning artist nor a KZread content creator, just a hobbyist who loves painting both indoors and outside. Been wanting to create a travel palette with gouache but didn't want to have a paint that would dry up and fall out. So this video was not a waste of time. It was very informative and helpful. I now know that adding glycerin will aid in keeping the paint fresh and useable. Thank you again so much for the information.

I usually layer the paint in the pan, pouring a little, wait one or two days, pouring another layer, wait again for it to dry then I repeat this until it reaches the level I wish. They don't crack for me.

This is actually a great idea, I'll definitely try it next time I pour out some tubes. *-*

Magical! LOL How interesting to see them over time. I use glycerin and gum arabic on my very dry watercolors also. But those paints I do not use on final paintings, I just use those paints for sketches. My fear may be unfounded, but I just don't want to risk it. It gives me anxiety. LOL A well thought out, well planned video! Awesome Karijn! Click! (There's got to be another word for it) LOL

I am thinking that the paints you use for final paintings are of better quality and as such would not need glycerin. ^^; But it's good to have it on hand if you want to make travel palettes with cheaper paints. It's probably another worthy experiment, to see if light exposure does something to glycerin. :D And in Italian you can say 'schioccare la lingua' (click the tongue) but we don't have just one word for it. But it's the sound you usually use to make a horse move, I think there's something similar in the movie True Lies, where the protagonist is hanging from a roof holding just the horse reins and wants the horse to move back. (If you've never seen that movie, you need to, it's awesome even though it's old.)

Just have to be careful with how much glycerin u add (ecspecially with acrylics), if u over use glycerin the paint won't dry and loses adhearence. Please watch the violence when painting haha, sounded so cute lol
