Something I noticed with some “redraw” videos is that there’s always this preference for an older piece, whether from the artist themselves or the audience. As an artist myself I found that maybe it’s bc during all our years trying to perfect our craft, we lose our “heart” along the way. The original vision, the creativity, the imagination. The recent one is GREAT on the technical side. You see all the skills that have been improved and overall aesthetic coherent. Anatomy, composition, color theory, Lineart and line weight, it’s all there and it’s easy to tell you’ve worked hard for that improvement. However there’s something left there in the 2010 and 2020 versions. Dynamics? Personality? Is it the poses? Tbh I think it’s the creativity and the desire to just make something “cool”. Back in the day that’s all we cared about. Yes we wanted to draw better but we wanted to draw better bc we loved making things that looked cool. While practicing and perfecting our skills we start to tend to more “safe” ideas and compositions, silhouettes and poses. It makes it easier I guess to look at the technical skills we worked so hard on. For my own artist journey I’ve been going back to my old artwork and genuinely admiring them. I had so much heart, so much creativity, and I want to bring that back. Pushing my perfectionism to the side and make something “cool” again, and now have the skills to fully realize those cool ideas. Just my two cents btw, ignore my rambles if they don’t apply! I love seeing the improvement you’ve made tho✨

That got deep real quick but you are entirely right (at least in my experience). Maybe us as artists should try to search for creating things that please us and our interests instead of the greater audience and purely technical skills. I suppose if we do focus on our own creativity then the rest of our skill will progress and our audience will see the joy we take in our pieces, even if our technical growth is slower perhaps we won't mind that because we enjoy planning and creating our drawings and the drawings will have motion, feelings and creativity. After all that will soon be the only thing separating us from AI.

Am I the only one who loves 2010 the most! Definitely feels like a very official artwork of an anime character made in, you guessed it, 2010. My point is, feels very authentic to the year it was drawn in. Nice work!

When u drew 2022 I really liked 2020but now I really like 2022😭😭 I just like the colours they feel darker and just fit better (in my trashy opinion) but the chunky belt is a slay

The expression and pose of the 2023 one is amazing but I think it lacks details on the sword it looks a little bit like a toy! But overall it's really great

I like 2022 the most, because of its color palette and anime-esque vibe. But I really love the dynamic in 2023, but as you said I think there's a lot more to add. Maybe less vibrance? A bit better anatomy. And maybe a bit less colorful? The red on 2022 stands out a lot, which I really like. But unlike 2023, I think it needs a bit more finesse~ on the perspective-gasm department. Overall, really cute character! I ain't an artist but this is just my 2 cents on the matter 😅

I'll have to say 2022 is my favorite. I like the colorscheme more. The darker dusty blue goes well with the purplish brown and the red is a nice accent color that really pops. I also prefer the slightly more purplish shadows instead of blue on blue on blue. With the new one I really struggle with the hair and the cloth part almost being the same blue.. it's a bit much. The eyes also seem more expressive in the 22 piece than in the current one which probably comes from being a bit more shaded ^^... As for pose.. the new one definitely shows a lot of improvement when it comes to dynamic poses!

I feel like you're at that stage of being an artist where you could more or less look at anything and break down how you would recreate it. You have a SUPER solid grasp on fundamentals (especially dynamism and gesture), and your color harmony has for sure improved! This year's piece has a much more pleasing flow to it and is I'd say more eye-catching/enjoyable to look at (like literally looking at them side by side my eye immediately goes to it because it pops out very well). It has my favorite hairstyle of all of them with some stand out shapes, I think it's neat how the rest of her outfit has these small changes from her earrings, belt, and even the details on her dress. I actually think it was a good choice not to include that red ribbon on her waist, that red is REALLY saturated and so it's really eye catching. That's best saved for areas you really want the viewer paying attention to and it's maybe a tad distracting in the 2022 version because the focal points should be on her face and sword with all that detail. (plus it goes off the page in a bit of an odd way) So I actually like that you kept that red reserved for her sword and head, though maybe I agree the sword could have used more detail on the guard as it has all these diamond shapes in previous years but here it's simplified to more of a standard curve. Part of me misses the small details on the dress (embroidery and patterns) but the pose is so captivating it isn't missing anything without them. Glad you brought the shoulder tattoo back too! It's interesting to see the impression of her throughout the years. From this confident fun loving child ready to take on adventures albeit stiff and rough around the edges. to a fierce focused warrior cautious and determined, to an experienced veteran composed and strong standing firm against the wind, to a more relaxed and confident pro who has seen what the world has to offer and can be trusted to take you there with her to see more (reminiscent of that smiling child that started the journey). Really tells a story! I can't really say any critique that would be super helpful since I am fairly sure all the small details of overlap, folds, and 3d shapes are things you know and this was just a piece you didn't spend a ton of time on relatively speaking. (though belt straps are actually SUPER cool when you take more time on them so I encourage that haha) I like it!! thanks for sharing and Happy Holidays!!

I love this year's addition to your OC's! I can tell you have matured in your style and your understanding of the human form! Personally, I'm really feeling the 2020 version. The pose is really dynamic and I can feel the intensity from her face! My only critique for this years portrait would be the placement of the eyes. It could be a stylistic choice but if it isnt, I think your character would benefit from having her eyes a bit more spread apart. Overall, Great work!

I love this year! The pose is dynamic and I get more of a sense of the character, they seem a little bit more playful this time around which I really like! Things like the sword honestly don’t bug me too much. The anatomy of the chest to the shoulder on the right side is slightly confusing to me? I could be wrong be it feels kind of like the arm isn’t between the back and the front side, but just behind both sides of the figure. (Idk if that made sense). Either way this rocks!

2023(?) has a really cute background, but 2020 has got to be my favorite personally. Her pose is in line with her job and her accessories, and she looks badass. 2022 and 2023 feel a bit more generic in that she doesn't need to have the flowy skirts or sword to give off the same vibe (stoic and friendly, respectively). Idk, each piece of her design has a role to play in 2020. That might be it. This was fun to watch and break down.

I love it!! If you would let me make a constructive criticism is that the deltoids shouldn't insert behind the arm, your overlap seems off.

18:42 help me boost this! its such a lifesaver i have this enabled on my up to date clip studio with nothing i downloaded. you have to have your lineart on one layer. and right next to the clipping layer button, theres "set as reference layer." then, with your bucket tool, select the "enclose and fill" setting. you might need to fiddle with its settings in the brush setting tab to fit your lineart. i dont know exactly how it works lol, i just pressed buttons and slid things around, but i havent had to change mine much since i set it.

I really like the face from the 2022 drawing, but everything else I feel like was improved in the 2023 drawing, definitely better!

I love the redraw though I am DEEPLY saddened about the fact u added ZERO eye highlights or shininess haha, thats my fav bit to do personally! Anyway in seriousness I think though this pose is nice, if u were to redraw again it would be awesome to see a more in-action shot akin to the 2020 one, but amped up and made dynamic with some foreshortening/perspective stuff! That could really level up the piece I think. Aside from that I think the shading could be pushed more for a stronger impact as its bot suuper noticeable atm, but that's more of a personal choice anyway! Overall it turned out beautifully qndcyour improvement is inspiring keep it up! 💚

I love the 2023 drawing. It gives me Manhwa vibes and that makes it feel familiar in a good way.

2023 is best and 2020 is in second place for me (i love this series)

First time watching your videos, and I gotta say that the way you add base colors to your art is pretty similar to mine! Like, I select every spot that isn't the character, invert the selection and then paint everything with a single color. Then I use that single color layer as a mask. Also, if the color bleeds, I also select the area where the color is bleeding and then I delete it.

I think, this year, the anatomy is difficult. Looking at her head and her arms, she’s facing more head-on to camera, while her chest looks like it’s in 3/4 view like 2022’s. Her hips feel very long, like her legs are only starting around where the skirt ends rather than where the pelvis would be. It’s all the little things that are tricky to notice but have an overall impact. It’s complicated when using the liquify tool to keep everything is its right place. These are things I had to squint to notice, but they add up to a niggling buzz in my head. Artists can reach a point where these hyper specific things are all that need to be worked on as everything else is so high level. It’s a bunch of nitpicks. But those are the ones I have.

I like to think of Booba shapes as basically 2 conjoined teardrops in the form of an upside down heart. It makes it easier for me to visualize what the chest should look like

tbh, 2022 pops off for me...well if you combine 2022 and 2023...it can cook! (my opinion)

I think 2022 was better cause of contrast. This new one is a little washed out to me like if you put it in greyscale, I don't think it would read as well. Basically i think your darkest dark areas need to be darker, that's why i think your 2022 one looks better. IDK could just be the style you're going for though. Additionally, I think the upper torso anatomy is off. The shoulders seems to point forward but the torso is pointing 3/4's. Sorry if this is unwanted critique. I know the pain of spending 10 hours on a painting to have someone just point out all the flaws lol.

Just found your channel and I love this video format! :) Seeing how you draw + the screen capture is neat! Also love the editing with the memes xD I'd love to hear your opinions on ProCreate. I bought my iPad this year, switching from years of CSP on PC to ProCreate on iPad and I do like it, but CSP just feels better. One of my issues is, that I do tend to rotate a ton, when I draw on the iPad and that sadly feels a little clunky in CSP? And the interface feels a little cluttered... idk. I want to like CSP on iPad, but I resort to ProCreate right now, because it works better, even with the worse brush engine. Anyway, subscribed and looking forward to more videos! :)

I think the hilt is fine not all blade hilts are long I wish the blade had more shading I like her smiling it would be nice if she had a name or some background lore. First time watching you I really like 2022 and 2023 the pose in 2023 its less stiff and I think using other references can help you draw people I use pinterest.
