I actually really love these. The texture is just so fun😂 I'll add, it took me a while to start enjoying them. I was wanting them to work like my lyra water soluble crayons and they just didn't. But once.i embraced them for what they were, and used them for fun texture and mark making, I found it forced me to be free and childlike in a way I couldn't figure out how to be otherwise.

My favorite color from this set is Violet but I'd definitely return it because I wouldn't want to deal with the crumbs.

I admit, my first ever watercolor palette was the art philosophy vintage pastels, so I’m shocked that these products don’t seem to catch my eye the same way. Ah well it happens 🙂 I’ll always love that first palette

I have both (and the Sunny and several other brands of oil and wax pastels ). I consider wax and oil pastels different but similar mediums. I find a use for all of them in my "mixed media art making". I feel it is unfortunate when affordable products receive unfavorable reviews when they don't perform to expectations. I have had success using water soluble oil pastels for sketching and underpainting for oil pastels and oil paintings. I do find Neocolor II to be a superior product. They are great alone and excellent with Neocolor I. Since I like mixed media I enjoy them with gouache both regular and acrylic.

Thank you for watching and sharing! I was quite disappointed by them but my hope is that this will help those who would like the texture and the beautiful colours to get them; and those who would hate the texture and end up returning them, to avoid them. Especially as in the UK they cost more than neocolours. Thank you for sharing how you use them, a few others have too and it’ll be a lovely source of inspiration for those who’d enjoy these x x

My Amazon wishlist is getting disturbingly long because of you 😆 I recently bought the Sunny watersoluble set form Temu, which are surprisingly good, my first time using watersoluble crayons and I'm highly enthousiastic about using that medium so will definitely buy the Neocolor as well. This set has some very interesting colours though that will add on nicely to the Sunny set. I've also added on the woody pastel set as an add on which makes voor a very good affordable range of colours.

I got a set of 15 Neocolor II's a couple of day ago as an early Christmas gift for myself (the first ones I have) and it's still in its plastic because I'm contemplating to keep it that way if it would deter me from buying more things before Christmas. :D

From the neocolor 2 I have a salmon pink and a salmon. I think the salmon is between the salmon pink from neocolor and art philosophy. So maybe you like that color also

I’m not really a fan of oil pastels in general but I definitely love the dark gray color the best. As crumbly as they look & the amount of product that gets used up, I would have to agree to return them. Thanks for sharing this video review of this. Have a great weekend!

I purchased a set of the Art Philosophy Rustic about 4 years ago and, in spite of much effort, I’ve never enjoyed using them, though I find that they perform best on my Canson XL watercolor paper. However, like you, I used my Neocolor 2s to recreate this palette. The 245 Light Olive is truly the best match, as you demonstrated. 160 Cobalt Blue is good for the missing Cobalt Blue. 180 Malachite Green is good for the Cobalt Green, and I found that either 051 Salmon or 042 Desert Rose (formerly Flesh) is a good match for the Salmon Pink though 051 leans more pink and 042 leans more yellow which means they are probably a perfect match if mixed. Thanks so much for reviewing these! If this review existed before I purchased the Art Philosophy, I wouldn’t have bought them. However, I do think that the color selection is stunning, so I was glad to recreate it with my better supplies 👍🏿.

I love the Neo IIs and am still learning how to use them to their potential. Have 30 colors, so I am happy with those. The violet in the set is lovely, but I'd return them.

I've seen some nice results with blended color pencil leads using mineral spirits, the same could be done with these oil crayons. The blend was very smooth and rich in color, they also don't granulate, but I think they should be blended first in some pan and not on sketchbook paper because it leaves crums. Basically they can be used as watercolors. Thank you for upload, pretty hair lady 😊😊

Art Philosophy is the same as the ones by Mungyo I'm 99% sure.

If water is not disolving them, gamsol and airbrush medium sometimes work better.

Well now I know that it’s not necessary to purchase a Art Philosophy Set! I would like to add a ThaloGreen to my colors and a Emerald Green too, but until I can purchase singles, I will keep looking. I’m not sure I have a favourite colour in the Art Philosophy set, they’re all lovely colours, I just don’t see a personal stand-out for me. I’m sort of anti-pastel because I hate the mess, the crumbly bits and blending with fingers. I like pastels in pencil form and that’s about it. So, I was really excited when I saw people using the NeoColor IIs and they seemed to be more of my kind of thing. I ordered the 30-colour set and I ❤ them so much. I don’t feel the need to look for another supply of that type, they just work well for me and how I like to use them with my watercolour/gouache. This was a good review, I’m sure you’ve saved some people some money and for others, it might be what they’re looking for and work for them! (Craftamo and their Sarah Burns subscription box took all my art-supply spending money for the next year 😂.)

In America, Art philosophy is known as a crafty brand for mixed media art journalist. It is not sold in the artist section of supplies it is sold with the crafts. I have one set of watercolors from Art philosophy. I plan to do a video using them. Based on my knowledge of the brand. I do not plan to invest more into their products. Unless their watercolors Wow me. We will see.

They don’t seem to be very pigmented. Not something I’d use, they look like hard work when you try to dissolve them

I have a small (15 Ct) set of CD Neocolor IIs, and they are dreamy and creamy. I also have the water soluble King’s Art ws crayons as well as some by Mungyo, and they don’t crumble. Apparently the AP brand is lacking something. What a shame.

I have the mungyo water soluble pastels and the prima ones. Some are so similar that at fiest i thought they were the same or from the same manufacturer. However, some of the prima are actually a lot creamier. Both sets are super fun though and I use them together ❤🎉

It hurts that that beautiful violet is only available with the set. I am consistently in search of the perfect purple, so the violet immediately caught my eye. But yeah, if it doesn't feel right, I'm not going to grab it to use it.

I like the Cobalt Green but I would not keep this set. I think the crumbling indicates binders and really they're not worth it. 😶

I’m wondering if it’s the paper that’s causing the crumbling. That paper seems to be quite smooth and not necessarily good for oil pastels. I’m looking at your writing on the opposite page. I’m going to buy them and use a paper with more tooth.

Maybe? It is cold pressed watercolour paper so it has some tooth but perhaps not enough for those pastels. Let me know how they work out for you on pastel paper xx

You didn’t swatch all 12 colors of the Art Philosophy 15:30 . May I ask why you didn’t swatch the cobalt blue? It is so nice to see people swatch things on camera. I like to see how things perform and hear what people think. I can see that the Neocolours dissolve better.

Not a keeper set. ii found a water soluble oil pastel set by Mont Marte that works beautifully... or... you could do this ( ii did this with 36 neo color 2's in a transom brand stay wet 36-well travel palette): cut up the pastels, how you'd fill any w/c palette, and fill with distilled water using a pipette, let dry down a bit, and add water til they sort of melt and use as an extra palette with a decent waterbrush.
