    Just an optimisation. Write: r+s=d/24, r-s=d/60. Subtract from 1st equation the 2nd and get: 2s=d(1/24-1/60) = d/40, so 80s=d and d/s=80. I think, this solves much faster.

    what if there are too many people on the down escalator, and either you have to wait for the people to come down, or you have to get slowed down by having to push through.
