Thank you Nori for being the subway surfers for this video, and thank you Tuna for all the great ideas!
This is extremely helpful and encouraging! I have done a few cons but I got nervous now and your video gave me more heart and structures to plan my upcoming ECCC. This all would be so overwhelming and unthinkable without people like you who are so passionately and generously doing and sharing their experience! My most sincerest gratitude to you, dear Tuna!
I double checked with my con and am putting business cards on the back of little candy’s this time of year (think sour patch kids that you give at Halloween). Yes it’s a freebie, but everyone loves candy so it draws people to my booth. I’m not allowed to sell them, and it makes them take a business card. I will have to see how it goes.
Funny that you mention your rule about saying eye when you make eye contact because I've learned to not make eye contact when I'm only browsing because I know the vendors have a customer service mindset on and it looks a little awkward if they're waving at me and I'm mid-walking away
Oh man Tuna.... I have so much I want to do. I just started with my digital art and I have my knitted headbands, my painted bob ross inspired canvases, tulle hairbows, and I'm starting to think of charms. Sadly, I have to manufacture the charms myself with shrinky dink paper, a toaster oven, sharpies, resin, and mod podge. And new ideas are always coming to me every time I set foot in a craft store. (That's why my boyfriend hates going to Michael's or Hobby Lobby with me or even the craft department of Walmart) Cause I get ideas in order to cycle things out every year to keep my inventory fresh....
This was such valuable info thank you! I’ve been doing markets since October of 2022 and I’ve found that those red flags you mentioned are exactly why I’m being much more informed and choosy when it comes to where I sign up. Yesterday was actually my very first artist market & it was much different than the flea market and farmers markets I’d been going to. I had so much fun even though I didn’t sell much. I met a new collective of vendors too. My first year I just tried every market I could and I’m glad I did. I know better where to go this time. ❤

I love that - so much of this industry is about learning from mistakes and not being afraid to try new things! Best of luck with your 2024 markets!!

@@ArtbyTuna Thank you! 😊
I highly suggest earplugs! You never know how loud the crowd/room/music speakers are going to be, so having earplugs can be essential to keeping you from being completely worn out and overstimulated at the end of the day!
This was super insightful! Thank you 🙏🏻 I’ve been wanting to go to a market for a while now and you’ve given a lot of tips!
more great content from Tuna!
So great Tuna!!! Invaluable tips for markets. Thx
Thank you so much for the detailed explanation. Happy that you're back 🎉
This was superrrrrrrr helpful!! Thank you!
This is a great video. Thank you!
Ah, you posted this just when I needed it! Just applied for my first 2 markets this week.
so many amazing tips, thank you for sharing ☺☺☺
These are such great tips! While I do miss doing craft shows up here in Vancouver, this makes me remember just how much work goes into each one. Such a valuable video! 😻
Thank you so much for imparting your hard earned art businessy wisdom upon us! Definitely saving this one to come back to
this is so great! in the application process right now for so many of the markets I added to my spread sheet collection last year. Appreciate you being real about the fact that setups could vary wildly and I gotta be okay with being adaptive!
Thank you for this! It was so thorough and honestly answered so many questions I've always wondered.
This is such great information and thank you for being so transparent! This is going to be one of those come-back-to videos for me. I was surprised to hear you say you made a small amount of money at your first market! It gives me hope haha
This was such an informative and thoughtful video! I loved the tip about sketching a layout if it’s your first time and having a Fanny pack over a cash box. Such smart tips for us first timers. 😊
Thanks for posting this!! I'm trying to get into the market scene and it's tough D: But I've been waiting for this video ever since you announced it and it's super helpful! I'll be coming back to it for sure. oxoxo
Thank u so much, this was supeerr informative💐💐✨✨
Aaaah spreadsheets! Why didn't I think of that! *rushes off*
What excellent timing! I've recently started my own webcomic and right now my goal is to get accepted into VanCaf 2025! This was great. As a possibility for a follow up video, I'd love to see a more in depth look at setting up a display!
This is so helpful, thank you! Do you have a tips for artists that have a lot of different mediums/styles/subjects they like to draw? I do a mix of original art and fanart but I don't like sticking to the same topic so I have a bunch of different stuff and fandoms that don't really fit together.

I would say my work has a lot of variety too!! There are options like creating sub-brands, but I personally just sell everything together and sort display by item type!
Over scheduling and lack. Of marketing is a huge red flag with markets this wasy first year and my worst market was one of these. Also think about the event date and other things going on in that city in comparison to the population of the area. So if you domt live in a very large area and there is a bigger event going on that same weekend. That market might not be a good investment.

Checking concurrent event dates is such a good point! Thank you for mentioning it!!
Oh, I like you. That was great, thanks!
Great tips. Love that you don't do fan art. I urge all artists NOT to sell fan art. Challenge the art world and stand by your talents! You can do it!

@@Jadedroads_28 ah. Gotcha. Yeeeeah, there's quite a few artists I know who have gone that route. Well, to each their own.

🙏🏿 Never has a more perfect video come into my life at a more pertinent time. Thank you for everything you shared x300
This was incredibly helpful! I have a question: I've been researching manufactures and print companies. Do you have any that you use, love working with, and would suggest other artists check out? I know that's a super broad questions because there are all kinds of products, (from pins to prints to purses to more - OH MY!) But really it would be great to know places things can get printed or produced if you do not produce them yourself. Thanks so much for everything.

You guessed my next theme for a video, haha! I’d love to help direct print options and places to manufacture products. For now, I’ll recommend local shops if you’re really just starting out to avoid the high minimum order quantities online. Once you’re ready to buy 50+ units, I have a FAQ page on my website with some suggestions!! I’ll go into more detail when I get a chance to make the video! Thank youuu!!!
Great video. I like the clip of 7 years ago Tuna. What were you 16?
