@@marysmith1765 Of course we would have to define "wealthy" to respond, but let me try. 1. Wealthy people I know personally didn't inherit, they acquired their property by providing what others (employers or customers) wanted at prices they were willing to pay. Then they invested some of it. It took over thirty years to achieve wealth for most of them. 2. For myself, we've lived in the same house for over thirty years. Our cars are relatively low-priced and are five and seven years old. The same is true of others I know. 3. Biden keeps saying "fair share" without telling us what he thinks that is. Half of all federal income taxes are paid now by the top 1% of earners. Most would like to be more generous but they don't get to keep enough of the value they produce because the government confiscates it in taxes. And speaking of taxes, there's a whole industry of smart, capable people who produce no value at all--the tax preparation industry.

Money is victim to inflation, but a mortgage must answer to the contract of the quoted number, which will always be the same, which will be outside of the effects of inflation. It all depends on when you started and when the pyramids tops out at. Usually with the predictable/periodic "collapses", which are a good time to buy IF one has the money. During Clinton years, gold(coins) was around $250/oz? Not so long ago, but would have been a good 10% hedge for retirement ( weapons and whiskey, silver for your neighbors.). It is a whole new ball of wax now days, but so far the rules have not changed. Utilizing real estate that can facilitate the greatest number of options is a way out. And a strong, healthy back. Lots of ways to make money. You don't need a hell of a lot of money to retire(property, land, infrastructure/car etc.- of course), just more than the average "necessitous" poor planner. Money is the estimation of the largest group of the poor, not the richest man. Billionaires ride on the backs of the poor, the poor never apply themselves, because they don't know how. It is meant to be that way by design. When it isn't, it will be utopia or tyranny. If you can get any family/friends on board, make it straight up and legal, so much the better. Although, one who moves alone moves quickest, but two men can do together more than one man alone. 6-7 13 hrs days for 10 years should do rather well for anyone. You pretty much only get one roll of the dice before "1999" strikes the hour.Tenacity and resilience is greater than wisdom and intelligence. Vision and planning better than loyalty is steadfastness. Time is the most valuable resource and the greatest creator of fortune and should not be disrespected by giving it away to one who has a better plan and a greater vision. Better a fool than a slave.

I never thought I would be able to put $100 worth of groceries in a carry basket. The pickup that I bought five years ago cost $48,000. Today it would cost me $66,000 to replace.

I paid $1000 for my car, had to replace the intake manifold $300 bucks. It is the best car I ever had and I'm 68.
