    it is interesting - as my Viper is set up as standard (by the book) - I use a 2200 3s in mine - and the movements we great.. (I always have 30% expo) set - it was the Arrows Hawk that I found really Twitchy - at the recommended settings - I dialled them down a lot... not flown the my T33 yet.. great information - stay well ...

    What control surface deflection did you have on your ailerons and elevator for the Viper at 30% EXPO? The Control Surface deflection on mine was not twitchy at all, as I had to dial them up a bit, it was the T-33 that was so twitchy with the specified control surface movement that it was uncontrollable. That's why I started off with smaller movement on the Viper.

    My favorite EDF jet, had mine for almost 1 1/2 years now. I only fly it with a 4S 1300Mah battery (with an upgraded 40a ESC), it has a short flight time of only 3 minutes, but it is great! I have replaced the motor and fan once already but I do fly it often. I also have the Arrows Marlin, another great one!

    Hi! From the videos I've seen it does look very stable in flight. As luck would have it, I have (4) 4S 1300mah 70C LIPOs that are supposed to be delivered today ;-) I'm finding that at the altitude I fly, 5700' ASL, these 3S LIPO are not adequate. I'm going to start setting these up for 4S from the Start. I performed the Maiden Launches this morning and just got back. One went very well, and one ended in failure. Guess which one? I launched both with the recommended 3S LIPO. I've got to stop going by the specs and go with my gut ;-) 4S here we come! See you in the Air!

    @@GroundControlRC Agreed, 4S is the way to go. All my failures on launching were with 3S lipos. I also tried an 1800 4S from RoaringTop but it flew almost the same amount of time since it was heavier.

    @@texasuavpilot You're absolutely right regarding the weight. There's a point of diminishing returns with weight, thrust, and flight time. You have to find the Goldilocks Zone ;-)

    @@GroundControlRC I'm guessing the T38 ended in failure? Only reason I think that is I know just how well the Viper usually flies. I have only really seen a couple of T38 flights though.

    Unreal, I;m waiting for Mine to arrive, it will be great to see this from Your take. Some Blokes have used 2200mah, My smallest batteries in 3S are 1800s so that'll be Me. Beauty GCRC, bring it on.

    Thank you much Jono! I just performed the Maiden +2 this morning. You're going to love it ;-) It handled a 3S 1500mah 35C LIPO that weighs 125g at 5700' ASL. Plus the additional weight of my Landing Skids. I was flying at 502g and it was awesome. If you're close to Sea Level it shouldn't have any problem carrying that 1800 and you should get some excellent flight time. It's EDF Unit is pretty darn efficient.

    Awesome little EDF. Just retired the 1st one I bought. Hundreds of flights, and because of poor landing skills and a rough grass strip the nose of my Viper was starting to look like Lee Van Cleef. Instead of continuing to fly it and finally destroying it I retired it to the Hangar of Fame. (I have two Hangars- the other is the Hangar of Death. That’s where the Apprentice S 1.5, the Timber 1.5 and anything I bought from Dynam or Durafly that’s still in one piece)

    Hi Trond! It's a great EDF Jet. I've converted mine to 4S by replacing the Stock 30A ESC with a HobbyWing Skywalker 50A ESC. I fly it on 4S now using 1600mah and 1800mah packs. I'm pretty hard in the throttle and could get approx. 6 minutes of flight time. I've found that 4S packs of the same size give me more power and better flight time. I wish these 50mm EDF Jets would have been setup for 4S to begin with as the performance is much better. I certainly had a lot of fun with it on 3S as well. It's a very good airframe. See you in the Air!

    Very nice video thanks. Just got one of these my first jet. I mainly fly gliders but have a Xeno, Z84 and Chaser (Bangood) flying wings with motors, the last two are pretty quick. Setting up the CG was a little concerning, using the 1300mah @106g was OK nicely positioned middle of tray. Then I tried a 1800mah @ 144g I needed to put this one virtually all the way back. So, I am a little concerned how can some fly it on a 2200mah @ 163g? (All 3s.) Flying it on a 2200mah would make it very twitchy at best wouldn't it? Would have been helpful if the CG was already marked on the fuselage. Haven't flown it yet waiting for the right day and a bravery pill!

  • @GroundControlRC

    @GroundControlRC

    Thank you! Yes, this is a fantastic flying EDF Jet and one of my favorites so far. I fly at high altitude so a 3S 2200mah is not an option for me. Yes, I would think it would be hard to get the CG with that weight of LIPO. I flew it with a 3S 1500mah LIPO that weighed 125g and that worked well. I now fly it with a 4S 1300mah LIPO and use what I Termed a 3S+ Power System where I clipped the top of the Throttle at 77% on mine so I didn't go over 30A on the Stock ESC. It has much more power and slightly better flight time. I find a CG where it flies best and just mark the location with a marker so I can get the same balance each time. You'll do fine as it's a very well behaved EDF Jet and it's only been a year since I flew my 1st one so I'm still an EDF Rookie ;-) Much Fun!

    Looks like both the T-33 and this one have a pair of cheater holes under the wing one can open up if they want to get more air to the fan. If you ever try bumping up to 4S then you may need those extra passages. Happy boring holes in the sky!

  • @GroundControlRC

    @GroundControlRC

    2 жыл бұрын

    Yes they do. They both have one under the nose and right in front of the EDF Unit in addition to good sized normal air inlets. These may just have plenty of airflow for 4S but we'll see as I'm definitely going to be testing these on 4S ;-) See you in the Air!

    Thank you much! Yes, I think the Viper would make a good 1st EDF Jet. I just flew my 1st EDF Jet this year so I'm still a Newbie with EDF Jets. The Viper is easy to hand launch and is very stable and forgiving. The T33 is a pass in my opinion as it has very bad stall characteristics. See you in the Air!

    Hi Christophe! If you're referring to flight time, approximately 3.5 minutes. I've found that flying with a 4S 1600mah LIPO, after replacing the Stock ESC, I have much more power and can fly for 5 minutes. With a 4S 1800mah LIPO I can fly for 6 minutes.
