Arriva Kent ALX400 Volvo B7TL Voith gets Pelted w/ Kickdown, Hillclimbs & Maxouts through Medway

Today we have a second appearance from Kent’s iconic batch of Transbus ALX400 bodied Volvo B7TLs, being 6428 (GN04 UEB). Voith B7TLs are one of my favourite sounding buses in general, with their lovely engine sound, loud axles, especially shortly after entering 4th gear where a lower pitch starts to become audible, and the Voith screaming at high revs. Here, with a very determined driver on Route 190, every clip in this video consists of kickdown, featuring downshifts, handbrake launches, over-revving kickdowns, at one point seemingly a redline, other times near-enough… long hillclimbs, fearless downhill accelerations and a number of times where the bus was taken up to top speed! It will be quite saddening to see the complete withdrawal of these, after a long standing 19-20 years of speeding up and down the A2 etc, but all good things come to an end. This is definitely a 25 minutes worth watching, and personally for myself a lovely way to potentially see off the GN04 batch of Volvo B7TLs in Kent for the last time! For all the Kent locals? This is definitely one for you!

An iconic bus indeed! Our batch in West Midlands was just recently withdrawn, very well built. They weren't as quick as these but they had a really funny idle loop.

Yeah I heard on idle they used to rev up and down indeed 🤣
I remember hearing that sound in Sydenham on the 176 in 2011.
My stalker b7….. has a high idle as well kicks like mad

ALX400 Voith and ZF B7TL's back when Go-Ahead London had some sneaking around on some routes back in the day where the absolute dream to hear if you where lucky to come across a heavy footed driver, these where powerful compared to the buses we have today to be honest.

Yeah definitely, most of them have kept in good condition, some on the other hand… I’ve heard gearboxes have gone bang 💥
