I remember these being used by Dan Air to do the round Britain flight schedule (including Newcastle and Liverpool). They would stand on the tarmac at Speke with one engine stopped and the other one whistling away.

Et l'une des plus belles machines de tout les temps avec le Breguet 941 et les Alizés ! Laurent Touquet.

I made my first flight in this plane at Saint-Yan in 1972, on the seat of the mecanic officer. I was 8 years old.

When I lived in DC back in the 80s, Allegheny used to operate these on regional flights. The Bastans had a unique sound when taxying. I wonder what the long dorsal fin is behind each prop??

Yes! I used to watch these Allegheny Commuter Nords and Twin Otters from North East Philadelphia Airport. They did have a unique sound taxiing. My all time favorite airplane!

For information: The Bastan engine was develloped and created by Turboméca manufacture. ( Safran Group ).

@hodgejr : Hi, the long dorsal on engine is for the automatic feathering. This system allows to configure the propeller in feathering mode, by automatic sequences ( fuel valve cutt-off, oil pump running... ), while the engine has a problem. This system allows to reduce the workload of the crew.

Is that why the sound seems to be constantly changing? I used to watch these take off and land a lot when I was little. My father rented Piper Cherokees from Delaware Aviation at KPNE.

They sounded like no other engine - whistling is the best description.

Aucune place pour une reconversion? Nouveaux moteurs, FLIR etc!
