    That Ctrl+Q keybind is really helpfull, and for some reason i never disabled the "Quit" default shortcut so everytime i hit that by accident the annoying "You sure you wanna quit blender?" pop-up appear, thanks for that xD

    I had a hard time with this one until I realized that you only apply the transforms to the cube but not the cylinder. After I found my mistake, it worked like a charm!

    i would like to ask 2 questions: 1-at 1:33 there is a G+hold ctrl hotkey combo. i have industrial keymaps, and my move (W) and hold ctrl not doing this. Is there a way to find this kind of object rotating method with industrial keymaps too? 2-if i'm doing an Array V2 via hard ops, how can i force the axis or the array to use my custom orientation axis?

    Why there isn’t an easy way to snap objects together dependent on Normal directions in Blender?

  • @Al-tk5zp
    @Al-tk5zp3 жыл бұрын

    why all the malarkey? you select a face>selection to boolean and you're done. you can adjust the cutter a bit afterwards to your liking.

    There is a faster way that gives you exact alignment and doesn't require eyeballing the final rotation in Align View. Try this: Select any rotated object, face, or edge that you want to match. Using the top middle Transform Orientation menu, click on the "+" button to create a custom transform orientation for that object, face, or edge. Select the new object you want to match and go to Object > Transform > Align to Transform Rotation. DONE. Just hold Ctrl and snap to one of the old object's face and everything's ready to array. No need to set snapping rotation or copy rotation because you already did that with 1 click in step 1. My recommendation is to set 2 hotkeys to make this super easy: First hotkey is to bind the "+" create custom orientation button, the second hotkey is Align to Transform Rotation. Another thing you can do is use F9 Preference when using create custom orientation and set it to "Overwrite Previous" -- this makes it so that every time you use this function, the name will overwrite the previous name so you do not end up with a long list of custom orientations to delete later (there is no "delete all custom orientation button," so this makes that issue moot).

    @@trebilicious Didn't know the F9 shortcut, thanks! There's an even faster way to do this: Just "borrow" a face from the cylinder. You just need to scale locally and extrude.

  • @trebilicious

    @@bosseta Extracting a face from the rotated host is a good jumping off point, but from a practical workflow standpoint I find that I'm more often needing to stick a preexisting modeled part to that angle. For example, if you wanted to stick an equilateral triangle to the rotated parent object, you'd probably be flattening a newly created 3 point cylinder instead of trying to build it from an extracted face.
