arr. James Erb - Shenandoah
Музыка
James Erb's beautiful setting of "Shenandoah" composed in 1971 performed here, live, by the Choir of Royal Holloway as a special encore following the composer's death on 11th November, 2014
Lyrics
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you
And hear your rolling river
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you
way, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.
I long to see your smiling valley
And hear your rolling river
I long to see your smiling valley
way, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.
'Tis seven long years since last I've seen you
And hear your rolling river
'Tis seven long years since last I've seen you
way, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you
And hear your rolling river
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you
way, we're bound away
Across the wide Missouri.

Nice song. Good choir. Thanks.
I used to sing with Jim Erb many long years ago. He was the most generous man who loved to give away music. He was a great teacher. He was a great musician. He was a great man. Thank you for your performance. It brought tears to my eyes.
To find a treasure you can't have and live with a broken heart that never heals.
Very impressive with such a small choir. They all have such beautiful voices.
Why is this so good oml
Sang this in college under the man who arranged this setting of Shenandoah, James Erb. He was a pure delight under which to sing, and is greatly mourned by this particular alto.

Wow, you sang under Erb's direction? So cool! I sang this piece several times during my senior year of high school and LOVED it. Very challenging but so beautiful.

Prospero 058 , I did as well. He was, indeed, delightful as a director. I mourn his passing, too.

Which college? Was James Erb on the faculty or visiting faculty? Thanks!
James Erb was director of choirs for 40 years at the University of Richmond, Virginia. I sang in his choirs for 4 years as a student.
The balance and blending in this choir is my life goal! Literal goosebumps and tears rn.

So beautiful--I'm getting goosebumps listening.
Amazing ! God bless all of you.
What a lovely arrangement and rendition of Shenandoah with insertion of round in the end.
Mr. Erb was a real mensch.
The best rendition I have heard! How could a handful of people sound like a thousand voices lifting you up to the gates of heaven 🕊. This was so beautiful.
Their way of singing is very heavenly
So beautiful until my eyes wet T.T
Churches radiate such a lovely echo
Absolutely stunning...
Just beautiful
Beautiful rendition of a beautiful song. Brings tears to my eyes when I think of how lovely the Shenandoah Valley of western Virginia with the mountains on either side and all the streams and rivers.

Jack Markham, Jr. a choral group in Tennessee is singing this as part of a July fourth celebration. I’m enjoying it so much, being a native born Virginian.

I had to learn this version of "Shenandoah" for state honor choir in Oklahoma when I was in high school. It's REALLY difficult. At the end I had to hit and hold E flat for 16 measures at ppp.
Amazing blend! Incredible rendition. Just tell that one tenor who sings from the back of his throat to chill out, hahah.
THE DECRESCENDOS AAAAA
Cyring, no kidding.. Oh, so beautifully sung...
This is Early American folk music
What the fuck is it with England and every university having excellent choirs? Every college of Oxford and Cambridge, for example.
Pulse..
