I watched this when I was a teenager and I have read the books and I feel like people don't understand how much Carlisle was loved. I was in the cinema when THAT scene came around. The gasps and screams were phenomenal.

I was in my mid 20s. The entire theater I went to was standing up or on the edge of their seat literally screaming, cursing, crying. Everyone was in shock. When it was revealed to be just a vision I never been so relieved and pissed off at the same time, the entire theater collectively sighed a sigh of relief and happy cries and people shouting OMG, THANK GOD!!! . Something I will never forget. I will be 38 in a few weeks. :( Its strange because he was a good character and I liked him but he was never my favorite or someone I gave much thought too, I did not expect to feel such grief seeing his head be ripped off. It felt like a part of me died. It was crazy.

Well I think Aro is like a "collector" of vampires. He thinks about it strategically and is VERY VERY intelligent compared to his two counterparts. One of them is overly ambitious and would get them all killed and um, Marcus, he is just ready to die as we see in the end fight. But Aro, with his ability to assimilate every THOUGHT another has EVER had, that kind of collection of knowledge and information and EXPERIENCE has to make him MAD SMART. He has a vampire (one of the wives, I believe) who keep the rest of the Volturi basically "addicted" to being with each other so leaving is like going through withdrawal. I believe he has another (I have read up on it in awhile) that also has some sort of mental affect on the others that makes them not think about wanting to leave. However, having someone like Alice, he could see everything ahead of time. Threats, whether someone is coming for them, whether someone in their ranks is going to try to leave, etc. etc.. He can even use it to track someone down like Alice used to see the exact spot where Victoria was going to be. I mean, using that almost makes Dmitri's mental tracking ability pointless because Alice's ability cannot be stopped by a mental shield! He also has said he would take Jasper, probably both to keep Alice happy but also very much ebcause of what Jasper can do with emotions and use his power with the Volturi just like he did with the newborn vampire armies, keeping them in check and in control by controlling their emotions and because he does it by affecting them neurologically and chemically, mental shields don't affect it either. So he is someone he wants. He also wants Edward, which is why he invited him in New Moon. Think about it. Aro can hear every thought Edward has by touching him. If Aro just kept Edward by his side during events and kept his hand on him, he could hear what everyone in the entire area was thinking just like Edward could and could use that to help him further manipulate situations. Finally, now that he has seen Bella's ability, I am sure he wants that too. Having a mental shield on his side, both can protect him from Jane and Alec ever going off and trying to take over (though, clearly Jane can only hit one vampire at a time and apparently cannot fight based on the fighting scene that she isn't that much of a threat - she would definitely need Alec's help or for Aro to be alone), and it also takes a threat off the field of someone who can actually stop Jane & Alec's abilities from having any effect, which is definitely a threat considering they are usually his go-to move as attack dogs and because it seems to terrify and scare everyone else (you can see the way they all just STOP fighting as soon as Jane shows up and Alice tells Bella to "just do what she says"). So yeah, I think he is mainly a collector of vampires that would make his Volturi Guard even stronger and more impenetrable.

In the book, Aro ultimately sought Edward and Alice by his side. By doing so he would be completely omniscient: Aro with everyone’s past through touch Edward knowing everyone’s present thoughts Alice with the knowledge of what was to come

You ever wonder why he was able to do it so easily though? Every other vampire seems to need to be pulled apart by multiple vampires of strength (Dmitri and Felix), using leverage. For example, you saw how hard it was for Edward and Bella, despite her being a newborn and still very strong together? And they had to use leverage to do it. However, for Aro to be able to just pop Carlisle's head off in the middle of the air doesn't track for me.

@@Frosty98206 I disagree. I believe he wanted Alice first, then Edward. Edward could warn him of what anyone was thinking of at any given time but sometimes that can be too late if they act quickly but Alice can see it before it's coming outside of someone just immediately snapping out of left field. However, I do believe he would take both with him wherever he went because by touching Edward, he effectively gains his power becuase Edward can hear what everyone is thinking but as long as Aro is touching Edward, so can he, because he is picking up everything Edward is. Their gifts complement each other well. It would be even crazier if Aro could see every thought anyone had ever had without having to touch them if their powers somehow amplfied each others. I dunno.

​@@JohnJack-yz8gj Yeah, Aro already has an impressive ensemble of vampires that have abilities that ensure their loyalty and desire to remain and if they ever thought about maybe leaving, even for a second, Aro would eventually pick up on during what I would assume would be a random screening he would do of the Volturi's members just by checking in on any new thoughts they may have had. Also, I think Aro's ability is TOTALLY not given the props that it deserves. I mean, can one imagine the ability to be able to assimilate the knowledge and every thought anyone has ever had in their lifetime? That alone is enough for someone who has lived for over three thousand years, being able to assimilate the brilliance of minds like Einstein, Tesla, Franklin, Da Vinci, Newton, etc., as well as other brilliant individuals who never really achieved any commercial acclaim. Not just that, but the fact that Aro hung around vampires who themselves lived for hundreds if not thousands of years and being able to assimilate every thought and piece of knowledge they had. One would be surprised the things he could know about people including things they didn't even know about themselves. Also, when it came to ideas about advancing scientific capabilities as well as national secrets and classified information would also be interesting. However, you're right. The addition of Alice would give the Volturi an ability to prevent any coven from having any chance at all from breaking their power. Also, Jasper would come along with Alice and Jasper was suggested to be about the same if not slightly better in capability in combat to Dmitri, who , was known to be a very strong fighter, second to Felix, along with his ability to mentally be able to track down any vampire that he ever came across (or, any vampire that he got a taste of their mental signature, so to speak). Jasper would be an additional great physical fighter as well as someone who, like he has in the past, use his emotional abilities to control t he general emotional feelings of the group of vampires he was working with helping keep them all in line, which, Aro already had two very powerful vampires with abilities doing this (for example,. one with the ability to make it so that being a member of the Volturi was like a drug that they became dependent on and upon leaving the Volturi they would go into some seriously mad withdrawal that would help prevent anyone who ever tried leaving the Volturi from trying again. Then of course, there's Edward and as long as Aro is touching Edward, he can read the minds of everyone present without having to converse with Edward at all. And of course, finally, Bella, as an addition, with her ability to protect the Volturi from any outside mental abilities is such an OP ability that is like allowing one side to be able to use automatic machine guns while the others were reduced to only being ab le to use sling shots and throwing projectiles like rocks and other things. What I find interesting is, Caius. I don't understand Caius's purpose as one of the three leaders of the Volturi. I can sort of understand Marcus with his ability to read the abilities of other vampires but as far as Caius is concerned, I've never heard of him having any special ability at all other than being a creepy asshole. One thing I've always wondered, coming from the one scene in Alice's vision where Aro was able to just jump into the air and tear of Carlisle's head with such ease makes me question whether these vampires, like the vampires in True Blood and possibly other movies, become more powerful as they age. If not, there should be no way that Aro could take off Carlisle's head so quickly, particularly in mid air where he has no force to push off against that leaves me guessing. Typically, as we've seen, like when they talked about removing James's head, they referred to how difficult it was to kill their own kind. Then you later had Felix, the best physical fighter that probably exists and somewhere near as strong if not as strong as Emmett (or stronger), being shown having to use all of his strength as well as the force of pushing off of the floor (wish showed the floor breaking and cracking underneath is feet showing how much force was being used) to begin to start to rip Edward's head from his neck which makes me question how Aro could so easily take Carlisle's head off in mid air and without even making it look like it was even difficult for him.

God. I remember being like 15, in a small ass town theatre, screaming THIS ISN'T IN THE BOOKS WHAT THE FUCK! My parents are shushing me, I'm getting weird looks--but the cocktail of emotions when they reveal it's just a vision is indescribable. This is by far the best deviation of any book to movie adaptation, and it's the only way they could have done this arc justice.

I love how at 3:24 Jane's just walking as if she's on the beach or something🤣🤣🤣

The thing that amazes me is non one still doesnt realize benjamin. Army male's character could have ended every enemy by himself with his powers. He was the most powerful. he could use the ice to cut heads off then his fire powers to burn them. He could have caught them all up in a tornado and dropped them into the tear in the earth he made down to the lava.they can't fly so how would they counter being stuck in a tornado with shards of ice or rocks flying around pulverizing them. I mean he could have ended them all easily if you think about it.

Fire is not an element. You cannot just conjure fire. In the case of fire, Benjamine is more like that pyro kid from the X-men who still needed a lighter to get the flame going. Benjamin would need a flame and then he could feed oxygen into it to make it spread in the way he wanted and where he wanted but that would take a lot of practice he definitely didn't seem to have.

This was the "Avengers: Endgame" equivalent of that era. The story built up for this. Cullens and their allies vs Volturi. The gasps and cheers of the crowd in theaters were unforgettable. Awesome theatrical experience.

Me and a few others SCREAMED when we saw Aro holding Carlisle’s head when I watched this movie in theaters as a kid. It was a big shock to me who read the books with the fervor and passion of a preteen child
