    It has to be noted that a lot of the guys are keeping things pretty quiet (looking at you Martins and Mateusz). Some guys I assume are focusing more at the Arnold UK that is happening a week after Ohio (Maxime, Oskar). Also take into account that some of the lifts on here are from December, don't judge if some of the lighter weights look heavier. The biggest Hooper lifts are done on a regular bar without the cleaning part so take that into consideration. Who do you have winning this event?

    You should do this kind of video with every event at the arnolds. Should be a series that would get pretty good views. A compilation of every athletes best time / reps in each event.

    you have to appreciate the work Hooper has put in on hisbaxle pressing recently. finally answering the question "what if a top strongman learnt to split jerk" his lifts at 180+ look effortless because of him learning this technique and that will be the difference in this event. he can cruise to 6 or more reps on technique alone and then grind out a couple if he has to, but i think 6 woukd take 1st on this

  • @shemian8757

    @shemian8757

    I think the split jerk would be better for a max event, the cycle time for that technique will be longer and the energy needed. Will be interesting to see on the day regardless tho

  • @Testoodope

    @Testoodope

    3 ай бұрын

    Lots of other top Strongmen have done split jerk, Martins Licis is one that comes to mind, and many of the lower weight class athletes as well. I think that Hooper had to relearn his overhead because he's had an awful lockout for the past few years, he could never put his head through, always still leaned back slightly. Good to see he's fixing that because it was one of his most criticized areas for the past few years.

    The mixed grip clean looks like a recipe for a bicep tear. But I guess that hasn't been the case historically so I hope it won't be an issue here.

    Tom is looking amazingly efficient on his lifts. Would have liked to see something at 400 or above. But he was moving with some Savickas efficiency and looked like he had plenty left in the tank. I felt the same with Singleton. Not as efficient, but looked more powerful. I did believe Martins said in his last video he might have to resort to split jerk? Correct me if I am wrong. Martins has said in his videos he has been in a lot of pain too. I don’t know how he will do but all bets are off if he does split jerk. Mateusz looks like the shoulder and tricep power is there but his clean was ugly.

  • @thestrongmanhistorian

    @thestrongmanhistorian

    Mateusz said he struggles because he doesn't have a power belly. I'm pretty sure that was a last rep of a set and it still looked pretty comfortable.

  • @antoniocenteno1483
    @antoniocenteno14833 ай бұрын

    This one is tough. I think Tom has the best chances given how good he became at pressing stuff for reps. Still i got to take into sccount the Apollon's whee is more difficult than a regular Axl and only two athletes have done the Apollon's in the past, wich are Thor and Mateusz... The rest, eve though might be doing great in training might find trouble when that thick thing hits their chest. Thor does train in a similar axl to the Apollon's too, so he might cause trouble for the stronger pressers given he knows what he wants to do and how to schive it (wich is 2 reps lol) Hooper and Martins have to be taking serious too given they can split and jerk (wich sould be banned if you ask me) And obviously mateusz and Bobby are just very strong at this event too, so they can contend for numeber 1. Somehow i fear for evan, like his intensity gonna take the worse of him in the Arnold's, that equipment can kick like a horse

    @@thestrongmanhistorian I'm really excited for this contest. It has to be the toughest ever contest. If I must say, whose legacy this contest means the most to it had to be tom stoltman. If he can get an Arnold's under his belts he's knocking on the door of top 5 all time no doubt. Hooper had an amazing freshman campaign and a result as such would have him way up on the ranks as well but he's still so young. I look for Thor and Licis to do very well. But something just keeps coming up for me and that's that no one at all and I mean no one is talking about Novikov. If he comes in in great shape he's a top 3 finisher no doubt in my mind
