Arnaud Bertrand on possible RIOTS in FRANCE and why CHINA doesn’t want WAR, but the US does

Paul Buitink talks to Arnaud Bertrand, a French entrepreneur who founded Housetrip and sold it to Tripadvisor. He then lived in China for 7 years and just moved to Malaysia with his family. Furthermore he is an influential, and one might say controversial, commentator on geopolitics and economics.
He explains what’s going on in France and why president Macron dissolved the parliament and only gave 3 weeks for another elections, which will be held on 30 June. It was a ploy from Macron to emerge as the reasonable alternative during the elections. But he is annihilated in the polls. France has fundamental problems as it’s not competitive, living standards are too low and it has not enough sovereignty. Arnaud comes up with some policy proposals. He worries about potential conflicts in Europe and riots in France.
Arnaud then describes the rise of China and its role in the world. He believes China strives for peace and is not interested in a war with the US or invading Taiwan. He also comments on the Tiktok ban and ends with some positive advice.

"War over Taiwan: China does not want war but the US does" Yes! I bow to your wise observation. If war broke out, I picture the following scenario: * US owns Taiwan * US prods Taiwan to declare independence * China's red line has been crossed. It has no choice but to resort to military force. * Japan, Korea and the Philipines are not sovereign. They will have to fight for Taiwan on US demand. * Australia will fight as one AUKUS * India will join, in kind * US will NOT fight in the War, but will provide money and weapons. * If China is weakened to a dire extent. the US would launch all its hells into China.

It is a phenomenon now that whenever people are talking war in Taiwan they are always without exception the westerners themselves. The Chinese and Taiwanese never consider war!

And they make terrible assumptions this prospective war. 1st. They think their homelands will be immune to the war and that the war will come to their home countries. China has more than the capability to strike any country in the world including deep inside any Western country. 2nd. They think the war would be a quick thing that will last only few months or weaks. They don't know that ahcina invaded Taiwan back in the 17th century because the Ming Dynasty forces who lost the war in the Mainland fled to Taiwan and established their forces in Taiwan. Mainland China then launched a war to conquer Taiwan. That war lasted 40 years and cost the lives of half a million people Another example was the civil war that took place in the Mainland from 1926 to 1949. Thae war cost 17 million lives and lasted 23 years.

I agree with Arnaud Bertrand on many things, but not om the EV tariffs. The are some Chinese EVs in Europe, not many yet, but if there were no tariffs there would large numbers in a few years time. Volvo, owned by Geely, sell well in Europe. If Europe allows BYD, Chery, Gelly, etc to produce cars in Europe that is fair enough, but they must expect to have their own imports into China taxed.

Both don't want war. US actions concerning Taiwan remain circumspect. Partly they are to prevent a phantom war.
