I see a misapprehension of request over extort, which is clearly ignorance. The PLA is a militant organization and when you have 5-6 people with guns at your house asking for money and other things, I hardly comprehend that as a request. Maybe you are misinterpreting that a person with a gun asking with a soft tone as a request rather than extort, even if they know human resource is important. Keeping them under fear is what gives them power in the area. And this my friend is not a request, I suggest reevaluation of your perceptions...
