Army Veteran learns to manage TBI symptoms

Tom experienced head trauma when his unit was hit in Iraq. This resulted in chronic confusion, dizziness, and sensitivity to noise and light. Frustrated by these symptoms, Tom sought treatment through VA. He now has tools to manage these symptoms and has regained his peace of mind.

It's tough to talk about. I appreciate this man being open about TBIs. Please visit your local VA. They aren't all good; some suck, but you can find help.

If you are someone dealing with PTSD or TBI try getting obsessed with a hobby. Pick up an old one, or try something new. I found I get relief from a long bike ride, repairing my bike, or playing an instrument. Sometimes we have to stop worrying about getting better and find a way to enjoy the moment.

I drive a truck, just like I did 20 years ago in Iraq, I dealt with ieds seems like every mission we went on. I talked to the VA, I found one question in common that they always ask, do you have a hard time remembering things. I always took that as an insult thinking that they were accusing me of lying or not telling the whole truth. That's why I quit going to their sessions. I work in the road construction industry, and every time a dump truck slams it's hatch, and I'm not expecting it, there's that brief momentary instance where my flight or freeze response gets triggered. An unexpected toilet lid slamming can also trigger me. I have self slow closing lids on two of my toilets, but that third one gets me every time someone slams it

Very important to get with a Hormone Replacement Clinic. And replace all the hormones that are dis-regulated. All TBI CTE results in Endocrine Dysfunction. You replace the Testosterone, Growth Hormone, Thyroid Etc. And get back to filling good. If you dont fix the hormones you will never heal

Hello Vijay. Thank you for writing. Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is most often known as a concussion, although some TBIs can be much more serious. Depending on the individual’s experience, TBI can cause changes in a person’s ability to think, control emotions, walk, or speak, and can also affect vision or hearing. Only a trained medical professional can diagnose TBI; however, our website does explain many of the treatment options and resources that are available: www.MakeTheConnection.net/TBI

While I thank you for your service, what happened to you might not have happened if not for bad U.S. policy in a country that never attacked us nor had planned to.
