My Armstrong Siddeley Lancaster From 1949 - Full Car Tour
1940's Armstrong Siddeley Lancaster (British Car) - Full Tour & Review
I quickly walk around and look at my 1949 Armstrong Siddeley Lancaster.
Produced between 1946 and 1952 the Armstrong Siddeley Lancaster was the first post-war sports saloon to be made by the company.
This model is fitted with a 1991cc six-cylinder engine and features a Wilson 4-speed pre-selector
gearbox. (A synchromesh gearbox was an option) The four-door, six-light body is made of steel and
aluminium panels fitted over a wooden frame and was bought from Mulliners of Birmingham.
The opening sunshine roof is standard.
In total 3597 Lancasters were made.
Originally being supplied in black with a brown leather interior, this vehicle was supplied to North London at a cost of £900 new (+taxes).
First registered on the 6th of September 1949 this car is believed to be one of 8 left in the UK
The vehicle received a full restoration in the late 70s before entering the private collection of Bert Chandler Motor Engineer of Bildeston, Suffolk.
It was taken off the road in 2007. Following his death in 2017 the vehicle was recommissioned and sold by Bridge Classic Cars (Suffolk) and entered my ownership in 2021.

Not brown & cream, it's known as: chocolate & cream, like the Pullman coaches of the railways. But what a gorgeous car, thanks for showing us.

Lovely car. Armstrong Siddeley produced their last car - an Armstrong Siddeley Star Sapphire in 1960. Fewer than 1000 of this super-luxurious model had been produced since it was introduced in 1959. It was a car for the well-to-do. But in 1960, this was a shrinking sector of society. The company continued with its interests in aviation, and passed the vehicle rights to Rolls Royce, chosen because of wartime connections. I don't think Rolls Royce was ecstatically happy about this arrangement. Nothing came of it.

Hello Jon. Thanks. My uncle had a Sapphire , also pre select . He took great delight in showing me how it worked. Lost on a 10 year old ! I thought the colour wasn't period . It could be a Rover colour Mexico or Brazillia . Just about get away able! Your comment about "it's stiff because l don't use it " 😂😠😂 Shame about the vynal . And that plate must be worth a lot ! The camera is obviously deceptive as she looks very nice . That paint will be cellulose and will respond very well to Auto Glym Radiant Wax Polish. Cheers !

Lovely. The paint job really suits the car and seems to be in very good condition. What does 16 HP convert to?

Thank you I don't actually know if I'm honest. I'm getting a top speed nowadays of about 55mph. Wouldn't want to take it much more than that 😂

Design team: What’s the fastest anyone drives on our roads? 55mph should be more than enough! (A few years later: Bloody hell, have you been up the Preston Bypass yet?)
