---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The goal of this small project as component of a Jaguar rear door panel is to reupholster its armrest in dark brown automotive leather including its additional plastic pieces.
We will realize the old armrest cover is useful as a template if it is still in good condition. The OEM cover has two pieces done in vinyl. The idea is to lay these two pieces over a piece of stationery cardboard and try to replicate it adding the required 'seam allowance' and the very important 'sewing registrations'.
To get 'french seams/double stitches even and flat there is a crevice/groove along the upper edge where the 'sewing junction' is hidden.
Shoemaker's transparent polyurethane glue and upholstery yellow glue are used for glueing procedure.
The whole door panel will be soon reupholstered in same dark brown leather.
I hope you enjoy the video and find some inspiration!
Cesar

    Another great video, good job. Why did you use the polyurethane glue on the center seem and not on the edges? What is the difference in the 2 glues? Is the hair drier to make the leather easier to stitch or does it do something to the glue?

  • @Cechaflo

    @Cechaflo

    5 жыл бұрын

    Thanks so much for appreciating this art craft! The 'polyurethane glue' is stronger and once is stuck it is very difficult to unstick. I used it on center seams because keeps them in place very secure. For the edges I used the traditional yellow glue because no much risk of unfastening on this part. The 'shoemaker's polyurethane glue' is activated by some heat. When it dries naturally it does not stick and give us time to line up the seam. The hair dryer should blow hot air to activate the transparent glue, otherwise, it would not stick. The heat makes hot the leather surface and passes through to also activate the glue. A hair dryer also helps to erase wrinkles, because the leather tends to shrink if some heat over.

    There is no much tension on that area, and I considered not necessary to put the ´спанбонда' beneath de junction (it is optional). I use the 'fabric backing' as a must in case of 'double stitches' on car seats. The Hog Ring Forum stands out a related post where master trimmer Brent Parker also shows this technique. The 'groove' along the upper armrestg edge is very important to get a 100% flat french seams. Thanks for watching the video!

    Estimado Javier, No fabrico ningun tipo de pegamento. Con respecto a los pegamentos el que mas uso es el amarillo que se utiliza para carros o muebles. El secreto para un buen pegado es, si fuera necesario, lijar bien la superficie a pegar, no mucho, lo suficiente para quitarle lo 'aceitoso/brilloso' que está por encima. Luego de aplicar el pegamento a ambas superficies, dejar secar bien. Si queremos un mejor pegado se le aplica 2 capas (solo al plástico, madera, etc. al que vamos a pegar) La primera capa sirve de 'base'. Hay que dejar secar bien esta primera capa. La segunda, la efectiva se deja secar lo suficiente (15 min aprox) y esta listo cuando hacemos la prueba que no este pegajoso a la punta de los dedos. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oWasx8ezlKmeg9Y.html

    I used 10 mm for seam allowance. It could be less or more, half of an inch for instance. Anyways it will be cut off at the end. It is seen at this moment in the cardstock paper: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYGa2KZ-nKSrndo.html The sewing junction line is done at a distance of 10 mm from the edge(seam allowance)kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYGa2KZ-nKSrndo.html The seams are cut close to the sewing junction. kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYGa2KZ-nKSrndo.html The cut edge is glued down into the plastic crevice: kzread.info/dash/bejne/pYGa2KZ-nKSrndo.html More tips about armrests: kzread.info/dash/bejne/Y5uAr6aBqaicido.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/ZXqp2q6ec8jZg5s.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/YoKEssasdbfPmpc.html kzread.info/dash/bejne/iqWLwbuvd8SZnZc.html

    @@sidleonard7432 There different good trade marks, such as Juki, Singer, Adler, Consew, Brother, etc. The machine should be triple transport, heavy duty. You could get direct assistance from the seller. www.advancedsewing.com/usedsewingmachines.html
