Fun fact: This toy sold so poorly and was slammed and hated so hard by Armada/UT fans that it actually scared 3rd party companies from trying any major attempts at UT again for another 7 years before Fans Hobby took a shot at it with their Optimus and Megatron. Only for them to have basically have the exact opposite reaction and sold several reissues of their Armada leaders and Energon Optimus.

People need to learn the difference between an homage and a proper update imo. G1 fans didn’t lose their minds when 07 Rescue Ratchet came out, nor did Cybertron fans rage at Prime Hot Shot. I also don’t remember any Bay fans getting mad about that silver animated Jazz. I obviously understand the desire for a proper update, but homages to me make for fun figures (Siege Hot Shot is a personal fave of mine in that regard) and I think people could really stand to calm down, especially now that Legacy has proven, with Armada Megatron no less, that the homage isn’t the only update we’re going to get.

He has the best Megatron design.

One fun part about this mould is that it has Megatron's spark chamber as seen in beast wars as a moulded detail on the swiveling section that the shoulder joints connect to

Gonna want to watch out for those treads, apparently this mold is reported to have issues with the rubber treads melting the plastic ala RotF Bludgeon. Not as bad as Bludgeon, but it's worth keeping in mind.

At exactly 1:15, this transitions into possibly the most unpleasant set of sounds I've ever heard a toy make, and as a Johnny-come-lately who only started collecting TF (as opposed to having them as a kid or buying them for *my* kids) in 2021, it makes me really appreciate the modern engineering I kinda take for granted. Also KZread did that thing where it showed me every video you make when it comes out so I didn't know I wasn't subscribed, fixed!

Honestly I love it when you fiddle with the toys. The sounds of the plastic squeaking and the ratchets clicking make for such good ASMR-y sounds lol

Combiner wars line was truely one of the toy line of time

This was one of the first figures that got me into collecting. Nowadays it has obvious issues and the mold is lacking a lot of modern engineering that makes for a better more posable figure but he's such a big solid brute I love him. The tank mode is fantastic, imo.

Owning one of these and not regretting my purchase back in 2017, even now. I got it on clearance for 30 Euros if I recall correctly. I love the shelf presence of the robot mode, not in the least thanks to the excellent head sculpt and colors. I also like the tank mode for the same aesthetic reasons. In my experience the transformation just gets in the way of itself, making transforming him a chore. Combine that with the rickety ratchet joints and hollow yet sturdy plastic... I love looking at him, handling him is another matter.

I haven't watched your video yet; but from the looks of things, it seems like you don't like this figure- Personally I love this figure, I'm not sure if you don't like the hand feel or if you've got weird qc, but I love how mine feels. It's probably my favorite megatron mold, especially if it had better foot articulation. Everything feels great to me. It feels clunky, like a robot. Personally, at least, I love how this figure looks and feels. I don't care that it isn't accurate. He just looks mean. Okay, after having watched your video there is some fair criticism, but I gotta say that I disagree with some points. Maybe I just have miracle qc, or my preferences are different, but my old figure still feels fantastic. Also, the chest and arm plates are fine if you don't fiddle with them too much, so I thought that was a bit of a nitpick. I do agree with what you said on his feet, they're my only real problem with the figure. Besides that, I still love him so much, accuracy be damned.

I still do enjoy the CW Leader G1 Megatron. He's flawed for sure, but the mold was made for G1 Megatron, and it's cool to have a big G1 Megatron. The Armada version of this mold just always seemed so wack. They definitely tried to make this mold work for the Armada version, and I do think the head sculpt is pretty good, but it just wasn't enough to save this figure.

I agree yeah the G1 version is super cool. The armada one imo is a cool homage but not a proper update (and to be fair I think they knew that considering the actual armada update figure we got at the time was a new mold)

This guy was one of the first Transformers I got when I started collecting, so hearing you go through all of the ratchet joints was actually a bit nostalgic for me.

i love the figure for nostalgic reasons i always remembered going to my local kmart with my sister and always wanted to get it but didnt have the money and when i finally got it i loved it so much!!

I just got my legacy evolution Optimus Prime and megatron. They do not disappoint.

I definitely think this mould works better as G1 Megs. And it’s so nice to see a Megatron tank-former that doesn’t just take the lazy H tank route. Armada Megatron gets a pass on that because the simplicity facilitated the gimmicks. But Earthrise Megatron doesn’t have any excuse

I convinced myself this toy is good back in the day just because, as a kid who grew up watching Armada, I desperately wanted to believe it was good.

I love the silver version, it feels nice and chunky and has working rubber treads! But yes it is a bugger to pose with those limited ratchet joints.

I really like that tank mode, it's like an upscaled version of the Universe legend class G2 Megatron, neat.

I remember getting him for Christmas in 2015 I was a teenager but didn't care because his tank mode looked so sick. I like him. He is decent tbh.

Great vid! Gave a pretty fair insight on this figure. Honestly wasn't a big fan of how it looked, nor as G1 Megs. Just felt like one those toys you'd only get just because it's big. That's it. Tank mode looks cool I guess, but I'd rather have a better robot mode instead. Still was probably good fun for kids back then or people who just wanted a big toy, though.

Other than the unsatisfying ratchets, i would had loved to have THIS toy when i was a kid. it basically does everything and his robot mode is posable enough that i would have wanted to do the leader of the decepticons thing.

I love this figure! I still have mine and never had issues with it. Plus i transformed it sooooo much

7:18 you can, however, move the back flap thing to be underneath the legs, below where the pegs where its suppose to lock itself into place. so that it fills the gap beneath the back of the tank. thats what i did on mine

I just got my hands on this one a couple days ago. Got him super cheap, just $6 aud, but there's one tiny problem. Poor guy is headless. Everything else is there, including the second, smaller pistol that I thought was for a different toy until I discovered that it does belong to him. Now I've got the challenge of finding a replacement head and figuring out how to attach it securely. If I can't find one, I'll just put him in tank mode and display him that way to make it less obvious.

You're not wrong, but the KBB KO of this mold, which includes the DNA add-ons, is pretty great. The black and purple version is actually my favorite Megatron

For me, this was one of the molds I liked very much in the first 15 minutes but then sold after two weeks.

I got this back in the day from toysrus for $30. Silver Megatron is the nicer mold. There is also a KO version of this which is black and comes with addons.

I got this guy loose for cheap, and it's limited, sure, but also kind of cool in its own way. There's some interesting stuff going on there for a Combiner Wars figure.

Speaking of Bludgeon, do you plan on getting the new legacy Bludgeon?

Yeah, this guy may have a cool tank mode but can't see picking him up for more than like 10 bucks. And though I have Legacy Armada Megs, I'm looking forward to you getting him so I can hear your thoughts on him and see the Trio plus the Woman Megs all together of that style haha.

I am a big fan of working treds on tank Transformers. That new Mommy Megatron did it in a really unique way in my opinion.

2:54 This isn't really a comment on the Megatron figure, but the what seems to be Lego figure that was next to it reminds me of the Astrays or the Murasames from Gundam Seed

One of the weirdest things about this mold to me is that we never got a G2 repaint considering that it’s a big tank Megatron. But I’ll take the G1 reinterpretation and Armada homage as well

I kept thinking that, until I got the shattered glass megatron, I really liked this guy but would see videos and it just didn't look fun to play with

Id say the silver deco is a lot better use of this mold. The silver is just gorgeous. Kinda hits a modernized g1 toy based look like a bit of titans return and potp did. Not exactly a positive or negative thing, but to anyone who owns enough g1 toy ish generations like potp hotrod or tr blurr it'll fit in well. Also makes the clunky articulation come off a bit more charming.

It is a remold so it is limited by it. I think it can also combine with Armada Tidal Wave. But I would love to see a Leader Tidal Wave for Legacy.

i personally think if the do him they should do a titan. but that's probably too big a budget. (of course we just got metroplex, the ark, and nemesis as titans so who knows?!?)

I have always believed that this figure was an afterthought for Hasbro, an excuse to use the Combiner Wars Megatron mold a second time.

Really hope the rumoured 86 Megatron takes the good parts out of previous attemps and makes a satisfying g1 style megatron. The tank mode on this is amazing and the transformation is effective, but the robot mode leaves much to be desired. Meanwhile the Siege figure is a pretty solid H-Tank but the Earthrise figure is just- ugh

I got the regular one of these as my very first cheapsh*t ko figure. Absolute crap, straight to my "shelf of doom" with the other stuff I hate but don't want to get rid of. I ended up ripping off the head because I decided I'd rather have a g1 megatron head as a prop than the working toy

I'd sort of taken a break from TF collecting by the time the Prime Wars Trilogy came around and didn't get back into it until Siege and the WFC trilogy started, and looking back now I realize I...honestly feel like I really didn't miss much lmao.

Such a weird toy with weird joints. Why do they sound so weird!? & I have no attachment to Armada Megs or Armada in general, but this toy, going by design alone looks alright & as a toy is also alright, not great, tho (going by vid ofc). Btw, love the vids, TTG!

I like the G1 version of this toy for two main reasons: he looks decent on a shelf and he scales nicely with POTP Leader Optimus Prime-a toy that's actually good. The Armada version always grated my nerves. I couldn't even stand to look at it.

I tried so hard to enjoy this mold (I had the G1 Megatron one) and that cannon on his arm just made it so hard to enjoy cause it just ruined how it could pose. Would have been better if it just removed instead of being attached

Tank mode is definitely where it's at with this guy, both releases. However at the time still was not enough to sell me on the clunky robot articulation/aesthetics. Mostly why I skipped Combiner Wars as a whole as they felt a serious/cheaper downgrade from the toys in the Unicron Trilogy and Animated. While Megatron has been a voyager in recent years (exception of Armada) I really want to see a g2/IDW era tank Megatron in Leader class again.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the joints. The mechanism has some slight play, but the thjngs holds remarkably well. As a matter of fact, it's tons better than the Legacy Armada Prime joints, and apparently, you seemed to love that figure.

I have the original, and it's great! It doesn't make any sense that they made this into Armada Megatron. He should have been g2 Megatron. It would have made a lot more sense. I've held on to mine and always will because you know hasbro will never make another Megatron with real working tank treads.

Went hunting for awhile to get the g1 version and got one ...and now year or so later i hate the figure..the shoulders are laughably bad ..pretty sure ill give it to my nephew so i dont need to look at it anymore
