Pay some respect to Arlo!

wowwww arlo and pheeb’s voices fit together like a jigsaw puzzle 🩶🩶

This song is very metaphorical for many different aspects of a relationship, what its like to be in relationship as a complicated teenager. It just flows so well and has so many different interpretations. Like, "Getting sick in the street," could mean clubbing and getting physically sick, or having an argument in a public place, or being 'lovesick' and going to do activities together. "Blue jewels round my neck." Could be lights hitting a bare chest, matching necklaces or the calm feeling of someone's arms around your shoulders. Arlo puts a cassete on and the way its shot, to me at least, focusses on tiny little details. Everything is saturated but dry at the same time. It sounds weird but thats how I feel when I've been outside hiking all day. I noticed how two of her bracelets were intertwined as she took it out of the box, which could be a symbol of how the relationship was unconsciously waited for, and the casette being played is the duration of the relationship. The person in the left side of the car could either be the partner, which would be the most obvious interpretation, or they could be like a voice in Arlo's head, so happy that she has someone. "I need love like a body needs sugar," speaks volumes. You absolutely need sugar, but generally everyone's like "Don't eat too many sweets!" And thats not unreasonable. If you have too much its bad for you, even if it tatstes good. On their journey, the couple pick up an eclectic group of hitchhikers. These can be the different parts of themselves that they discover as they grow confidence from one another, or different stages of their relationship. For example, the super exited one with the long hat is the giddy begging. At 1.30 the partner or internal voice disappears, and Arlo intropsects on how she feels about love entirely, like the most sincere part of the song. It's just her and the 'facts' of whats happening (represented by the hitchhikers.) I think all of these possibilities exist at once, they're not just 'coulds' if that makes sense. That's the amazing thing about art, you can fit so much into a small space, or a small space of time. Things that can't be said in words, and everyone will take different things from it, even that the creator didn't intend.

@@fajilanisha2015 That's one interpretation. Arlo hasn't said anything that I know of specifically, but it probably has some actual experience of hers behind it, whether that be her watching someone else relationship or her own relationship.
