Steve, my personal ARK tutor! Almost four years ago you gave me the courage and strategy to tackle my first artifact cave (lava cave on Rag). Then you led my wife and I through all of the Island caves (with the help of Michelle). And yesterday, after searching for 15 heatwaves, your trap gave me my first Phoenix. Your research and efforts are unsurpassed. You are sure to show how things are done, even on "Official" servers, rather than, "Watch me beat the ice queen with a sword" types of videos. I've said it before, but I'll say it again, Thank you Steve! (I just spotted another Phoenix while fighting Dodo wyvern, trap is up, waiting for heatwave.)

I'm not sure if this works on official servers but I did some experimenting on taming the phoenix on a modded server (S+ and some stack mods) I manage to tame it while IT was still an ashpile What i did was: 1. Find a phoenix 2. Wait for it to land and turn to ash 3. Get a Parasaur to detect its exact location. 4. Once you find its exact location start throwing Oil jar on that spot (I used about 30 and brought extra like 100 total) 5. Then ignite those Oil jar you thrown (I used flamethrower for this experiment) 6. Weirdly enough the taming bar was increasing even it was still in ashform (I can tell because I was using a mod spyglass that can see taming progress) Eventually I kept burning it with a flamethrower and thrown some oil jar and it eventually "POPS" out of the grown and got tamed. It took a while but it got tamed. (I'm not sure if this work on official? or any other but if you got a chance you can try it out!)

Just tried this.. 24 fortitude, calian soup, absolutely destroyed by the heat. I wonder if additional foundations on the bottom would allow you to put your platform further back and give you more distance to throw oil so you could avoid some heat If you build the ceiling overtop of the foundation you put down, you can attach another ceiling and put the ladder on the back side of it. Doesn't really seem to help though. I'd recommend bringing a stack of healing brews to help keep your health up

Make a tutorial on that because I bet tons of people don't know you can breed magmas on any map with wyverns.

Slight problem, i panicked.. and got burnt many times and died, in my current play through i havn't found anything beyond a primative gillie suit, this process still does work and i got it to about 22% before i ran out of healing brews and time. My question is, do the ashes of the pheonix drop back down through the hatch, or do i have to extend the trap upward another 5 to catch it?

Update: failed or interrupting this means the pheonix spawns elsewhere. Sorry to thoes who already knew, but i didn't 🤦‍♂️

Ressurecting this! Steve, this trap sorta works on ASA as well! the wall height is different, we used 3x walls and it spawned below the trap, I removed the hatch frame and it flew up into it! It might be worth a test on ASA. Anyways we got our Phoenix and guess what? The vanilla ASA Phoenix can LAND on the ground! I have never had a Phoenix before and this guide helped us so much. I've been subscribed for years now. The first video that i watched of yours was your snow owl trap

actually the hard part of taming a phoenix after this video is to find one. I can't believe I saw 2 in one week after playing for months on SCE but they were only 30 -50 lvl

@@onlyjasper5474 you mean how long between two heatwaves? I think it's based on probability. Once I experienced 2 sandstorms within an hour.

LMAO, haven't had a good laugh in a while. "Why stop at 2. Let's just keep throwing oil jars down." *Proceeds to turn the phoenix into a bonfire. I'm going to go do this right freaking now and I'm not stopping at 2!
