Oh it was preordained back in 2016 when they cut Scored Earth from game so could sell it as DLC while still in Early access. They had to do this because on Co-Founders plagiarized code from his old company and used it in Ark and lost 40 million dollars in lawsuit.

I think Overwolf hitched a ride onto my PC from some other install and I STILL don’t have it all wiped. It has seemingly ignored admin commands to delete and even reinstalled other things on its own. It continues running tasks in the background and starts right up again even if manually cancelled. Overwolf is part of the reason I had to wipe my last desktop hard drive. I don’t want that to happen to my laptop. My advice: don’t make my mistake by paying a bit more attention to what you download.

Bro, a lot of focus on this issue is needed, thank you for the in depth videos. Wildcard/Snail has really impacted all of us in the community. Down to the casual weeknight PvE private groups. My wife was super into Ark pre announcement and now we both kinda "What's the point?" To it? She plays on the Xbox One Slim and I'm running a cross platform windows server. You wouldn't believe the issues Windows version has that steam edition doesn't. Even down to the game running different on the same machine. I'm not buying Ark 2 personally and was really going to enjoy this Ark cycle. Buzz, look into Nitrado windows/xbox server issues from last week, they were posting memes and ignoring the questions about why No One could login.

Now knowing this about overwolf. I will not be buying ASA at all. "Boneheaded" completely describes wildcard and snailgames

No, fuck that. I'm not repurchasing a game and all of the DLC that I already own...ESPECIALLY when you promised it to me for free on more than one occasion.

so, what happens if i buy an "overwolf" mod, the game updates and the mod developer just decides they can't be fucked to update it to the new version? normally it's fine because i haven't paid, but what exactly stops the mod devs just fucking off forever? do wildcard then "own" the mod? will they update it? am i fucked? seems complicated.

So not only will we have to deal with all the new bugs copy/pasting into UE5 and WildCard will struggle to fix in ASA but we also have to deal with some BS third party app doing who knows what kind of shady BS in the background while playing that game. Sounds fantastic!

Steam reviews are always full of intelligence. Just look at the GTA5 reviews you will find someone with like 16k hours that says it sucks but still played it for another some thousand hours after the review.

The problem with using GTA5 as an example is that it massively improved over the years. There was a point when there wasn't anything to do, that isn't the case anymore. Yeah not everything changed for the better but that is besides the point. The fact Rockstar are in no rush to make GTA6 is another reason why people return to 5.

@@martakeczek6476 The most recent one to come to mind is Blizzard with Diablo Immortal. Ubisoft, 2K and EA do it frequently enough when it comes to abusive microtransactions and such. Usually there's a uproar, they delay the product a bit and release the way people got upset about and somehow, almost nobody complains the second time and the game ends up a financial success.

Thought this would be clickbait, but you bring up very valid concerns and points, and I had noticed the suspicious review activity on steam when I left my own negative review warning about ASA. The red flags keep presenting themselves... Subbed and thanks for your content!

God, I remember malware installing itself on my old computer ages ago and how much it took to remove. If a game I wanted to play was known to do that, I would drop it like a damn rock and never touch it again. Thanks for bringing some attention to this, Buzz, and congrats again on passing the 100k goal.

Wildcard planning to take down servers and allowing to continue in single player/host/nondedicated (once tried the host/nondedicated thing nad seems to be the 3 is the same thing). Well bugs what Wildcard claims to fixed (babies falling trough the mesh, gen2 is a mess - use the drill-head-stryder and resoursce nodes not respawning in the area until you restart the game, etc) still hapenning. I'm huge lover of mutations and I'm happy for S+ providing the propagator for this purpose. So the biggest problem by my opininon is pure lazyness. They rather resell their game than to check their product and TRULY fix it's issues.

Regarding the "TRULY fix it's issues" part, Ark's code is a straight up mess. If they were to try to implement the bug fixes in ASE, they could very well break the entire game in half on accident. I don't like having to play devil's advocate rn, but ASA is basically a way to actually fix the code and not deal with the extremely high chance to break the game at the same time. Of course, there's always the chance that it turns out to be even more of a bug filled mess, but I'll wait to hear about it once it's out.

Judging by the fact they had ark playable, and bungled the atlas launch so badly, this ark remaster will be like playing ark when it first came out. And if no one remembers, the lag was sooo bad, wild animals could barely attack you.

I didn't have a lot of issues with Overwolf's software, but... I tried to get a job in Overwolf and the the whole admission process felt more like they were using me for free testing then actually considering me for the job, now take my experience with a grain of salt since I didn't get to much into to the hiring process (I was rejected after a technical interview ) but i also asked other people about their experience with them and i got pretty much the same answer, even some people who told me they got all the way through 5 interviews only to be rejected last minute

Thanks for the heads-up. I had no idea Overwolf was potentially such a bad apple. I had it installed as part of Team Speak but have since removed it as honestly, I don't really need it nor the overlay.

Half the time steam reviewers or memers who can't even be bothered aligning the thumb up or down to the context or whatever they dumped into the text box. What turned me off overwolf was that to download & use a specific launcher you needed to download their app which also had to be running to launch the launcher you wanted which is just faffy bullshit on top of the adverts being streamed and hogging my meagre 2meg connection.

I only have 200hrs on steam ark but i have played this game on xbox for many years and seeing your favorite game that has been something i loved for the majority of my life go to shit just feels bad. Absolutely love your videos have you addressed the issue of wildcard just up and completely dropping the official servers thus causing all of us on official servers with years and years of work and progress to possibly be losing everything we worked for to be gone when Asa drops and the only way we can even still access or touch what we worked hard for is to download and on single player or on a private server and now we can no longer move freely between maps it's completely disrupting everything we've done and worked hard on and leaving us standing holding the bag of a game we already paid for and to even be able to start over we have to pay for a whole new version of the same exact game but we can't being what we've already done with us....

Hm, this is tempting me to come up with a story line for a better dino survival game. All I'd have to do is come up with a story, features, and a roster and my coder could begin work on it. Also I use Overwolf for modded Minecraft, as well as for Porofessor for TFT, and I've never once had an issue with it.

Overwolf also put out Mobalytics, which I didn't know.

I have played ark since April of 2016 and have 2000 hours in it. I have had some of my best gaming memories with it, and it has been fantastic overall. That being said, I do not plan on buying ASA or likely ARK 2. Wildcard has made some questionable decisions in the past and not listened to the players, but this is the final straw for me.

Okay so this comment is towards the beginning of the video so I can give a Basically unbiased review based off the game, but based off what im hearing we are in the same boat. ASE is losing alot of its functions including Servers, Primitive Plus Support(Though lets face it that shits broken and unfixable on consoles which is where i mainly play), and will slowly begin losing probably even bug fixes, as snail games has shown that when they drop a project and move on, they stop caring altogether, and Wildcard every time they fix something just seem to create new bugs. A prime example is that in singleplayer on Ark ps4 there is currently a bug where if you build cielings then try to place stuff on the floor below, it simply wont let you, thinking your trying to put it on the platform above you and thus making you destroy every structure above where you want to build just so you can build. Knowing wildcard, and how long it can take them to address bugs, and the upcoming ASA I have severe doubts this may get fixed. Now onto the subject of the video of mods for ASA, after watching the video i majorly agree there will be issues for the future of modding of Ark, and just recently on twitter, I have seen several Ark modders retiring from making any mods for the future of ark and are now seeking to do mods for other games. Which I feel speaks majorly towards the viewpoint even the modders have towards Overwolf. I could ramble on for ages on how the community for Ark that has built over the years, has struggles through delays and a buggy game, and straight up dissapointment and yet was still standing strong. They took a community they used and abused and thought " Oh hey we've done all this lets see if thisll last" and it was the last straw, the community is now falling apart. At the beginning it was a beautiful project.... but now is just corporate greed to suck every last penny they can. They passion they had is fading, and the downfall of something that was once great is coming. Sorry if this rant feels excessive, but I guess i had alot to get off my chest.

Pretty much correct of what he says. For wow, you can install it without overwolf. There is an "optional" download. I had weird stuff popping up on my screen on adds. Then i started to look trough the client. My god, never having that on my computer again for sure. Its like the bible of info that it sends out of your pc. So everything is shady from overwolf, to wildcard, to snail.. Il stay away from em, from now on

with pc there doesnt have to be a middle man but with microsoft and Sony there has to be as they are really stingy about mods and making sure nothing malicious is going on in the console which is why im so surprised they went with overwolf with all the stuff they are accused of being involved in.

Look..i understand the servers for the old game getting shut down. Im sure everyone does. Specially with a new game coming. I can even understand selling a remaster of the game at full price (all games do that pretty much). I do believe all dlc needs to be included in the remake. The bullshit thing tho is shutting down the servers BEFORE ark 2 launches while launching servers for ASA instead. Its the attitude of 'you cant play with friends on the old game or the new ark 2 for who knows how long but if you do want to play with them you HAVE to buy ASA.' This (the current drama) wouldnt be a problem if they just left the old servers going until Ark 2 launches. They could run ASA servers at the same if they wanted or wait and launch those with ARK 2 as well. The only thing people would be upset about is the walk back on the free next gen upgrade

I may be wrong on this because I haven’t played or modded Elder Scrolls in a while, but didn’t they use Gary’s Mod? It was very robust and worked on my Xbox for ES. They should make their own modding platform for this if it’s something they wish to pursue. More difficult for sure, but would be a respectable decision for the community concerns.

So I've never had to use mods or nothing like that, I've always been a console player. So when I heard the mod creators were going to monetize their work, I thought that was awesome for them, support people who work hard and make cool stuff. However, now that you have explained the Overwolf program and the basics of how it operates, I probably won't be getting ASA now. I was gonna be in full support of it but I don't need my system being bogged down or nothing like that. I feel like wildcard had something sooooo good and it's just too much for them to handle moving forward. It also really really pursuades me from even thinking about buying ark 2 because we already know it's not really Ark. I dont know if I'll give this company any more of my money. There are plenty of other games out there that I can enjoy. It just a shame because ASE, through all the ups and downs, will always be a one of a kind and it will be tough for anyone to match it. It's probably the GTA V of survival games.

I'd like to add, they are promising the best version of the game with a premium feel but yet they are knowingly choose a program such as overwolf that is gonna affect the performance and itself is popular for the wrong reasons. It's kind of like shooting themselves in the foot and trying to run a marathon. Imo

I'm really curious on if they bit off more than they could chew between developing the new game (and having played multiple blue card survival games, they are basically all ark clones and not really that good), and probably having to pay a hefty price for Vin Diesel. There's no way he came cheap. So they're having to monetize everything to not only make up for their numerous failures in other games, but also pay for him and development of a new game that, lets be honest, probably isn't going to be very good.

ark is currently on sale on PlayStation at the moment but I think it's about £20 when not on sale

I literally didn’t realise there was a remake happening. I was considering buying the season pass, I already had ark so it’s just to get the 3 dlc story maps as me and my friend want to play aberration. But yea no I’m going for mt to hold off until I know what’s going on, thanks for bringing attention to all this, wouldnt have known about it without yiu

Over wolf is also suspicious as when I had it downloaded mainly to clip stuff from Fortnite apparently even after deactivating it, it would still record my gameplay and everything when I didn't have that active or wanted it to

Just when you think Wildcard and Snail can't make any more bad decisions....

Thats why I went from overwolf to blitz when playing league of legends because blitz doesnt require overwolf which is just a big FPS and performance boost

Can you make a video on how to clean up your PC of all overwolf junk?

You can easily install sysmon plugin to your windows overview manager and it will tell you exactly what a program is doing what callback it is making and what systems it takes over, I'm not sure why all these so called breakdown video's on youtube or people's claims of what a program does never show this when pulling analysis on these type of invasive programs. I've used this plugins for years it's always worked and one of the most accurate utilities you could use. Most higher than average users uses Sysmon for this very reason for the amount of detail you get from it.

I had OverWolf installed for some mods on ESO, but I uninstalled because it's not worth the minor convenience. I'll see how it changes performance.

I feel like either the devs/execs hate ark and it's now extremely popular concept, or they have become so desperate for it to be successful again that they are making decisions in a state of extreme desperation.

At this point in time you will get 'positive' or 'true'. Nobody really wants to be fed lies just to hear good things being said about something. Thats 1000 times more toxic than brutal honesty.

If ark 2 comes out let's flood times square with ark memes like the pikmin fandom

"...make an honest living off their creations" Sounds a lot like "Trust me; I'm a nice guy..." And since when have they been honest about this? Even now, bribing people with copies of the game in exchange for an agreed on positive review, regardless of the reviewer's actual opinion? Methinks I can smell a string of Steam TOS violations coming, starting with the obvious and blatant manipulation here. Wouldn't it be crazy if they screw this up so bad that they lose Steam as a distribution platform before Ark 2 releases?

I play ark on switch now, you can play with mouse and keyboard. Official PvP is so good

Thanks SO much for this head's up. Wife and I got the game when Steam was offering it for free, but haven't installed or played it yet. We're both going to immediately remove the game from our Steam libraries right after I type this.

the old one is fine. and if you choose to play it on a server, i suggest you start out on an unofficial server since they will be closing the official servers in august. i've been running servers for old ark since 2017, and everything you're hearing about the new ark doesn't apply to your old base game, which is still a lot of fun, especially with friends. if you play the old ark game like we do, you won't even be wanting the new one. i won't be buying the new one, i'll just keep playing the old one.

Honestly even tho it’s dumb ass hell I see it as a win-lose situation as a console player that we can play the mods

I think this whole thing is shady. We haven’t seen gameplay from ARK 2 or ASA, and ASA is supposed to release within 4 months and not even a screenshot. I fear this will be Wildcards downfall.
