Tesla looks like it's going big. I really want to profit from the market this year. I have about $180k I want to invest in the market. My brain doesn't do very well in understanding these things. How else could I utilise the market opportunity?

Stock investments in general are out of control. Gains and losses are attributed to the Sovietisation of the Federal Reserve. A system where people focus less on fundamentals and more on Government signals. The stock market is becoming a lot like China's. You basically have vast swaths of wealth in ETFs that move almost all stocks in a general direction based on whether people believe the government will do X or Y. A stock will go up or down primarily because people want to adjust exposure to US stocks based on perceived government actions and secondarily due to fundamentals like Cash Flows etc.

Elon mentioned the analysis of ARK invest 3 times during the annual shareholder meeting on 6/13/2024 as being the best analysis of the opportunity Tesla represents.

AI Stocks are pretty unstable at the moment, but if you do the right math, you should be just fine. Bloomberg and other finance media have been recording cases of folks gaining over 250k just in a matter of weeks/couple months, so I think there are a lot of wealth transfer in this downtime if you know where to look.

Can we have a bare minimum standard for bringing people onto the show? Like if you lose 50% in a year you shouldn't be allowed

In 2021, ARK's price target for Tesla in their base case was $3000 by 2025. They never talk about their past price targets. They just keep pushing price targets another 5 years out.

I would avoid the index funds, mutual funds, or specific stocks for the time being. The 5% fixed incomes are the safest bet for now. Save your cash for when the market actually shows sign of recovery.

Why don’t we go back to their 2021 analysis for 2025 and see how they fare

First, we need to end ev subsidies. This helps reduce government debt. Next we need to remove tariffs on chinese evs. That alone will make evs affordable to the average american.

I don’t know about 2,600. What I do know is that if Tesla can do the Robotaxi thing successfully and they can ramp it up quickly assuming convincing regulators, then they’ll be worth a heck of a lot more.

Cuz parts & labor are both very costly. The battery replacement alone costs about $15K-$22K if I'm not mistaken.

One question I have never gotten a good answer is "Who is a liable for a FSD car that kills someone or has an accident?" Insurance has to play a role. I'm in the market for a new car, I may be open to a hybrid, but no chance on an EV.

I can see FSD being something a lot of people would potentially pay for, and for a variety of reasons. Many, in fact most would not - depending on price. If the fsd also had a safety component that just protected the car from accidents - that might be a good use of the same tech in a similar path. I don't see people paying for autonomous taxi and miles driven - just don't see it. It's maybe a great competitor to classic taxis in areas where they're used a lot. Taxi companies/drivers, they might have some issues to worry about. I also doubt the stricture under which tesla's safety stats have been gathered. I've been in and out of the stock alot and made some money but not in it right now - my $ is in nvda presently. All the musk related stuff will have some real highlights long-term, but we don't get them all by owning tsla... and frankly he's not as involved at tsla as you'd expect from a CEO of a publicly listed company. Tough call. She's kind of overly optimistic, but I'd rather see that than pessimism just the same. Hold on, it'll be an up and down ride until something drive vehicle costs down dramatically happens - maybe it's the Li plant or some better costing on battery sourcing (?). Been cool watching it happen and move around.

Correct - because that is industry practice. Get with it.

I don't disagree that autonomous driving is the future. However, I think Elon Musk has a tendency to promise more than he can realistically deliver in the near term, which I expect will be particularly true when it comes to a fully realized robotaxi service. I also think Cathie Wood has a financial self-interest in generating enthusiasm for Tesla stock, as Tesla is the largest holding in her ETF. Put those two things together and I'm highly skeptical TSLA will be at (or even near) her price forecast in 5 years. Retail investors beware.
