That girl with the tattoo is Olive Oatman. She was kidnapped in an Indian raid. They killed her parents and siblings and took her and her sister captive. Her sister died of starvation, but Olive was sold to the Mohave Indians, where she stayed for 4 years, during which she was tattooed. She was eventually released for a horse and some blankets.

Hi from OZ guys, I have been catching up with you on this road trip. Spectacular space, colour and mountains and I can now understand better why you enjoyed being in Australia, travelling outside the cities. Grand Canyon was spectacular with the cloud and snow. I love the the history but also the little snippets of cultural 'things' like Tia pinching the Juniper berries. Those little things are what are what make the people real, it is what tourist do not get, and that is sad I think. Safe driving you two. Cheers!

The Grand Canyon is amazing, did the helicopter ride around the west rim, then went camping and rafting for a week there. Seeing it from a helicopter reminded me of the Great Barrier reef, don't get a real sense of how big it is until you are elevated. Althought the GBR is bigger than alot of countries. As an Australian it felt like being in an alternative universe driving through Nevada and Arizona. It reminds me so much of the Pilbara and Kimberly, just not quite as red. You guys need to comeback and see northern WA, it's magical and the oldest place on earth in parts. You too will feel like you're in an alternative universe, just the canyons will be alot maller than what you're used to, but still incredible. And what you said about the sky being bigger is exactly what it's like in Australia in parts, the sky foes seme bigger and you feel insignificant.

For me, I have yet to see a blue sky the colour of the sky where I was raised in Adelaide SA. And to experience coastal waters as warm as there. Hawaii beat it obvs. And if I were back on the west coast, I’d been eating Mex or Baja every day as well ❤. I have memories of hiking the Grand Canyon 30 years ago - had no idea what the heck I was in for, - boy what a big day that was (and my poor feet). Enjoy and happy trails.

Those portion sizes…..the gold mining ‘donkey’ town just reminded me of the ‘Cars’ town.

Socks with flip flops, a big no, no.😂 Snow in AZ is beautiful. As long as it's a light dusting. I went when there was snow on the ground, and it was gorgeous!! Seligman? I wish I knew...drove right by on Hwy 40. Gotta stop next time. Tia speeds more. That's the reason her right foot is so much larger than her left. Go to Lake Havasu City and feature the London Bridge. It's just south of you. You guys are probably done with Rte 66 by now?

The same thing has happened here with the highways bypassing the little towns.

Hi from Adelaide, South Oz. Recently I watched a docco on LA. Facial tattoos on women (at least, don't know about the men) were part of the culture of the first nations people in the LA region.
