I'm a used car dealer in Texas, I offer in-house financing (otherwise known as BHPH), I think that this is a bit extreme. Stolen vehicles are often treated as felony stops, which means cop isn't asking for license and insurance, they're ordering people to lay face down, on the ground, at gun point. Have I had people skip out on me? Sure. Like I said, I'm in Texas, and I had to recover a car all the way in South Dakota, that was a few years ago. But something like this is a civil matter. Now if the lender goes to court, and a judge orders a writ of replevin, and the person defies a court order, then I believe that should be a criminal matter with police involvement.

I'm OK with this law but I don't see how it can be seen as a stolen car considering that the lending company hasn't pulled the lien on the car yet. Until that moment the title is still in your name and until the lienholder executes their rights the car can't be considered stolen.

Wow this is just unbelievable I mean I kind of get the car dealers side of their story. But I also see the side of the police department they shouldn't be repo Men their officers. But in the same aspect more in the contract part where you say you'll pay every month you get to keep the car that's a contract you don't pay you broke the contract that's when you go to court that I would be more happy to see then police officers being repo Men

Most modern cars already can be shut off remotely by the dealer if you miss a payment.

This is so stupid. Too many homeless peoples around. And that’s need to be taking care of.

The harder it becomes for lender to get the money back they lend out the more difficult it is going to be to get them to lend it out in the first place so before you think that this is going to be good for the consumer it may backfire and make it more difficult for people to get credit for a car purchase.
