Arizona Cardinals at San Diego Chargers December 9th, 1995

This is my last Chargers video unless I find more VHS tapes hidden somewhere. It's been a good ride. The last few games I have left are pretty much unwatchable due to to the age of the tapes and the quality of my VCR. Godspeed fellow NFL fans!

I just watched a video that called this "the worst broadcast in NFL on fox history." I don't think it's that bad.

I just saw that video too (which led me here). It's true there's awkward silences, but yeah I think it's going overboard to call it the worst broadcast ever. It's not that bad

Watched that same video, now I realize what an exaggeration it was. This broadcast is by far not the worst, because every broadcast with Joe Buck is the worst. I would listen to Bradshaw and Johnson if it meant not listening to Buck. I like this format. Play by play can be exciting depending on who does it, but I also really don't need to hear what I can see and understand. I am always much more entertained by the color commentary, anecdotes and history of the game from football legends. I appreciate this experiment though and I understand how in 1995 people didn't quite enjoy it. As a fairly rabid fan of all things football though, this is right up my alley.

It was simply a fun little experiment to show a game with no play-by-play guy, basically like sitting having a beer in the stadium with two guys who really know their football. It WASN'T SUPPOSED to be anything more than that. The kid who did that video is a complete dolt.

@@RMBII91 The kid was making shit up for views, at the time it was watched and appreciated for what it was. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'm also here from that video. I think he overplayed how "bad" this was. But that account regularly takes 15 minutes to tell a story that can be told in 2.

Actually, Bradshaw and Johnson were both doing color analysis. There was no PbP on the broadcast whatsoever (that's why there's so much dead air during plays)

If prime video doesn’t work they should sign Kirk Herbstreit and Al Michaels to NBC and change the broadcast and get rid Mike Trico like AL and Chris one game and then AL and Kirk the next game

Boomer is the lead radio analyst for Monday Night Football last I heard, and even if he's still not, he's had more booth experience than Terry Bradshaw had at the time of this video, so it would probably go pretty well.

I remember this game! Jimmy Johnson and Terry Bradshaw were absolutely destroyed for their poor performance at commentating during the game. Notice how much dead air you hear at various times during the telecast. It was embarrassing.

It’s not uncommon for networks to do this once in a while to switch things up, after all Terry Bradshaw had been a color commentator at CBS before moving to the studio, it just didn’t work out in this instance. Edit: wow they went without a play by play guy? It sounds awkward but I get what they were going for, during the time when the play by play announcer would be talking, they would stream some of those famous “fox sounds of the game”

CBS tried this with college basketball the year before when their announcers were all at the Winter Olympics - they had Billy Packer and Al McGuire call the games together without a play-by-play announcer and it just doesn't work.

Umm...that would be the role of the play-by-play guy. There intentionally was no play-by-play guy for this game. The only embarrassment here is that you're calling out something that wasn't supposed to happen in the first place.
