Never ever let the kick start slam back like that. The best way to crack the cases.

Lovely bike-I used to have a 1949 VH-just a note about starting procedure: It's a mistake to kickstart an old machine while it is on the stand-it strains the rear stand and the kickstart is a few inches higher than it could be. Stand astride the machine,off the stand,3/4 advance, about 1/8 throttle,ease the engine just past compression with the kickstart,return kickstart to the top then give one powerful kick-if the right leg is weak then one can thrust upwards with the other leg and then come down with a straighter right leg. Do not let the kickstart lever crash back onto its stop-let it come up gently with your foot.Never place the ball of your foot on the starter as here-it should be nestled under the instep. I am not meaning to be pompous-just helpful!

Hi. Had a WW2 350cc.it cost £17.10s. 0p.in the 50's. No problems at all,went like the proverbial....Well.... Until i sent it under a stationary lorry. When i came out of the DRI,i straightened the front out,put a new headlamp on it and sold it on.Drifting ?. It had big,floppy tyres on,and on a fast right/left hand bend,you needed both sides of the road to get around it at speed.... Happy days.
