Ariel pink will always have a huge place in my heart. When I first heard House Arrest I was blown the fuck away that it was recorded in 01-02. He played probably the biggest influential role for the soundtrack to my high school drugged out years. This album for me is a solid 8.

Is there a breakdown of Ariel's lyricism somewhere that i could read up on? I LOVE the soundscape of this album. Heard it numerous times. Some songs i even sing along to. But i have no idea what the album gets at thematically or concept wise (other than of course the very on-the-surface meaning one could get from listening to the words)

It is an immersive album, once you put it on you will listen to it all the way through. It is also a very weird album and you don't know what is coming up next, either in the song you are listening to or the next song on the album. It also sounds better on headphones. I agree with a light 8 rating. I like it as much as Pom Pom, which had some better songs, but also some real duds.

Great review which mentions pretty much all the reasons why one should love Ariel`s music, while still being rightfully critical about some aspects of it. I personally loved the album, although I think Pom Pom was larger in scope and had greater songs. This one might be more solid (front to back), but doesn`t have so many "high points". The title track is my personal favorite. Brilliant stuff. Overall, I would give it an 8.

I was lucky enough to go and see him at the Kazimer in Liverpool a couple of years ago. His support act was this theatre group that came out on to a set that was like a fucked up version of Romeo and Juliet. Then Ariel had an argument with the management and rumours started going around that he didn't want to play because he was convinced people there hated him. He finally did play though and it was awesome. Throughout the set he had all these weird video projections being played over him and the band on stage. I've been to many gigs since, but I'll never forget that one :D

You're right giving it an 8. Huge Ariel fan here and DTBJ is every bit as good as his prior efforts. I love it!

It's almost overwhelming to want to start to get into Ariel Pink since he has such a large library. But this album was a good start. Pretty good album.

Elder Arias The Doldrums is a good starter album. Probably his best 'lo-fi' record. Catchy and dark/obscure.
